John Carew knew Newcastle would be a good day as soon as he found out the Norwegian Villans were in town.
80 proud Villa supporters from the Norwegian Supporters' Club had made the trip to see the clash and were duly rewarded seeing their compatriot bag his first Villa hattrick.
Our new leading scorer told the official site after the match that he had thoroughly enjoyed the game, and that it had been made more special by the 80 Vikings in the crowd.
'To score a hat-trick for Villa and in front of the Holte End was an absolutely fantastic feeling. It was a great day and in front of 80 members of the Norwegian supporters club.
'That made it even more fun - the fact they were here. In the end it was a perfect day - a great feeling.
'It was a great match and it was a great performance in the second half. It was a great day for the fans, for the players and for the club. It was really nice. It was a big test (having been behind) but one of our strengths is to come back.'
And come back we had to after our pathetic result against Fulham:
'We had a bad match against Fulham and we started poorly again and really had to get ourselves together and in the second half we showed a different character. We really did do a great performance in the second half. It was a sign of strength from the team.
'They were three good goals and I was happy to score them. I always try to do my best, although it doesn't always work out.'
Carew has also paid thanks to Captain and penalty taker Gareth Barry for passing over the penalty for him to get his hattrick. The Hulk said that he didn't have to beg Barry, and that he was offered the chance:
'I was not thinking about taking it. It was his decision that I should take it. It was a nice gesture - he wanted me to get the hat-trick. If I'd missed it? Well, that's life.'
With a break to recharge batteries now, you just live in hope our second half performance against Newcastle can translate finally to 90 minutes. We've seen regularly what we can achieve when firing on all cylinders for 45 minutes, wouldn't it be nice to get that for 90.
