I thought I'd give my opinion on the recent happenings at VP and the sort of response it seems to be getting.
Basically, I don't understand how no matter what happens, Villa fans on the whole (and I'm not trying to point the finger, I'm guilty of it too) just cannot be happy.
Yes, MON could have bought more in the transfer window. Yes, some of our players might not have lived up to the hype (which we generate for them) in recent matches. Yes, we probably haven't played our best of late.
But all of sudden it appears this means we are going backwards, we're crap, MON needs to go, Lerner doesn't know what he's doing, we're no good, we should do better.
So let's look at some facts.
We are 6th in the league.
We are above a team who spent far more than we did this year. In fact we're above a number of teams who have spent more than we have.
We have 5 players in the latest England squad.
We have 5 players in the latest England squad, 4 of which are not yet 23 years old.
The captain of Bulgaria is by far and wide not our best player at the moment, says something of our other players doesn't it?
We have a chairman who doesn't just chuck a load of money in without really bothering, who could turn sour at any minute and mess things up. We have a chairman who is listening to the fans who want things like the Holte done up, who we've got after we moaned and moaned that we wanted a chairman to listen to the fans - yet for some reason now he is 'not concentrating on buying players, just making meaningless gestures'
We have one of the most sought after managers in Europe. If MON leaves us, is he more likely to go to Man Ure or Bolton? You decide.
We've just been beaten for the first time in *9* games.
There is absolutely no way we are heading backwards, even if we are not heading as quickly forwards as some might like.
For the first time I can remember in years, people are talking about US being the team to break the top 4, talking of US as culturing exciting, young talent, talking about US playing pacy, exciting, attacking football, linking US with bigger name players than I've seen in a long time.
We're not in any debt.
We have players who want to play for the manager and each other.
So the way I see it, you can stick pessimistic threads up your Doug Ellis, I am proud to be a Villa fan and proud of the way things are going. The very fact all this is true and we are angry we are not doing better sums up to me that we are in a very healthy position. We will do better, so let's show some damn support!
Up the Villa.
