More Villa Transfers Expected Today?

The Guardian have picked up on yesterdays seemingly false story that Villa are returning to Spurs to sign Kevin-Prince Boateng. The whole episode seemed to stem from Sky who later withdrew the rumour, so I'd safely say that is a no go. That hasn't stopped several papers still linking us with the 20-year-old midfielder who joined Spurs last season for £4.5m from Hertha Berlin.

However the broadsheet also suggest we are going to bid for wantaway full-back Pascal Chimbonda, a link that makes more sense following their signing of Alan Hutten from Rangers. Chimbonda appears to be somewhat of a mercenary after forcing the hand of Wigan to gain a move to Spurs, that said he is also a decent right-back who has played for France (albeit just one cap I believe).

Another rumour doing the rounds - with no quotes or real facts to hang your hat on - is that we are set to bid for Crystal Palace 17-year-old striker Sean Scannell. Reports suggest we might chance our arm with a £3million bid. Wiki info on Scannell: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Scannell

The Telegraph have Derby County coming in for goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen and suggest he might join them on loan until the end of the season. One thing is for sure, after several criticisms aimed at Martin O'Neill recently, his time at Villa is over.

The American dailynews.com say that Villa are close to signing $4million Chivas USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan adding that the move depends on a work permit with a hearing being held today. The 23 year old keeper was voted best in Major League Soccer last season. He was quoted as saying, when asked about a possible move to Villa: 'That would be great.'

dailynews.com quote US coach Bob Bradley saying, 'His mentally is really strong. He got thrown into a difficult situation his first year with Chivas. As a young goalkeeper that's hard. I would say that not all young goalkeepers would have survived that year. Brad's got a competitive side to him. He's got a real mentality that holds up under pressure.'

Martin O'Neill was also at the Leicester City game the other night, wonder who he was watching there?

I'm sure there could be a surprise or two before the day is out. Must admit, I like all the gossip and rumours but I'll be glad when this transfer window shuts!

On the downside, as reported on Vital Villa last night, Gary Cahill has left Villa for Bolton. Shame.

Guzan looks class

That Leicester match bit, is that Richard Stearman perhaps, a player similar to Cahill in many ways, but has played at Right Back on many an occasion.

It is a shame about Cahill but glad to see the lad chose Bolton over Blose. Good Luck Gary - all the best. Routledge at 1.25M is an absolute bargain and another bit of fantastic business by MON and his team. Hopefully we'll get a chance to see him before the end of the season and he can give some other players some much needed rest. Not sure we'll get Chimbonda - MON obviously has other preferences at right back and he might deem it fit to play Mellberg there for the rest of the season as a swansong then buy in the summer. In Martin we trust. UTV.

I think the Scannell rumour started with MON being at Leicester the other night, as he started for Palace.

As Melski says I can't see MON giving Mellberg's place at RB to a new signing. Mellberg deserves to play there until he leaves in the summer. I'd hate to see Mellberg on the bench for his remaining few months at VP.

Routledge is a one trick dog....no pace & weak on the ball (maybe i am just a bit harsh)......I really feel so for the poor lad he never got a fair crack at the whip coz of Lennon.....maybe he will shine under MON, but i highly doubt it coz JOL thought he was crap and an even better Manager in the GREAT "Jaun"de thought the same.....
spursinSA
...and you all thought Jol was crap, so what did he know.
Hoss The Villain
Surely Ramos would struggle to judge a player that he has never seen play first team football?
*Holte*End*Star*
Wouldn't be surprised if Stearman was who MO'N was looking at the other night at leicester.
Tierney
Stearman would be a good bet, cause as i say he is younger than Cahill and can play at right back, he would provide cover for olly and then step up next season
young_jonah
Spurs defender Pascal Chimbonds is currently undergoing a medical at Villa Park after the two clubs agreed a £7m fee for the right-back. Rumours of Prince-Boateng also going to Villa are false as Ramos has made it clear that the midfielder remains in his long-term plans.
KSarge1
Guzan is indeed class. If there's anything my soccer-playing nation can produce it's a good keeper, and he's the best of the bunch right now. He is likely the next Freidel.
Scot Dutch
What happened there then KSarge1? As for Guzan, surely the club knew that there was no way the guy would receive a work permit? He didn't fit any of the criteria.

Disappointing end to the window. I certainly expected more. Oh well, chance for our current fringe players to step up to the plate.
