Cahill Departs Villa For Bolton

Aston Villa defender Gary Cahill has left the club on Wednesday evening to join Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year old centre back has seen his first team chances limited with the Villans and spent the majority of this season on loan with Sheffield United and now clearly believes his future lies elsewhere, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal with Gary Megson’s side.

No exact fee has been announced with both sides preferring to leave it “undisclosed”, however it’s believed to be around the £4-5million mark.

I wish him luck but think if we got anything like 4.5 million for him we have done well. He would never have broken into the first team i have always thought of Cahill as being the same as Stevie Davis a good player probally best suited to the championship.

I rate Cahill but there is no way he was going to displace Davis or Laursen and he is too good to want to sit on the bench at this stage of hsis carreer when he's still learning his trade. Zat is, imo a more than capable back-up and if we can get cover for LB we have Bouma that can cover CB too so I think, if we got £4-5 mill as suggested it's a good deal for all concerned.

Good luck Gary. You will forever remain in Villa folklore for 'that goal'. So glad he didn't go and play for 'them'.

Thanks for THE goal and best of luck. Thanks for not going to bloos for two reasons: first, its BCFC! Second, BCFC might actually do alright with Ridge and Cahill in the back and noone wants that, do they?

time will tell, but £5m now is better than letting him leave for half that in the summer, or nothing in 18 months time.
