Villa Seal Routledge Deal

Sky Sports are reporting that 23-year-old winger Wayne Routledge has just signed for Aston Villa for 1.25 million on a 18 month contract.

The former Crystal Palace and Spurs winger passed a medical this afternoon.

More news as we get it.

Good signing, no risk fee, if he is over his injuries he could be a very welcome addition, he can bomb down the right, Ashley Young on the left, supply sorted.

Now lets get another....!

Now confirmed on the official site.

Looks like he has signed according to sky. Now all the villa faithful who were slating him before he had even put on the shirt should keep quiet and back him...
think he could go straight into the team at Fulham given Ashleys suspension? where's Maloney?
Looks a good deal. heads Villa win, tails Villa win. Good luck to him.
reza Maloney's a striker and left footed or am I wrong?
Could turn out to be a great signing. He was class at Palace a couple of years ago, then basically disappeared. Nothing to lose really.
From what I've seen of Maloney he looks decidedly right-footed.
this could turn out to be a master stroke for that kind of money.
good signing improves the squad, increases our chances of Euro qualification. But not a "brave new world" signing.
Havent seen too much of him since he never really got a go at spurs but he seems to look like a promising player if he can do half as well down the right as young has been doing down the left then we will have two attack minded wingers that would make any wing back shake in their boots.
Tallaght Villan
Who was slating him Gappy? If you read the threads most are happy with the player but not what they were expecting for a club sitting in 5th place.
Hoss The Villain
decent player that will add a bit of balance to the squad, and an all round Good honest bunch of lads
good luck wayne. welcome to the revolution.
Good no risk signing and we FINALLY have a natural right wing at the club. Now for a right back!!!!!!!!
Reza, maloney has been injured. I'm chuffed with this signing, don't care it was cheap, he could prove a real bargain (and if not, we've not exactly lost much have we?) Think he'll have a real point to prove and will come on leaps and bounds like Young has.
The Fear
I'll put my neck on the the block, I think it a good signing giving us attacking option's down both flanks. utv
chris the villan
This lad was quality at Palace unfortunately appeared to believe the hype and in my opinion moved on a season too early. That said if you actually read what many of the Spurs fans have written on other threads he was playing well pre season got injured and Lennon took his chance, my only concern is hae has been loaned out to both Fulham and Portsmouth in recent seasons and hasn't recaptured his Palace form, but he is now joining a young and vibrant side that I hope will rekindle his appetite and at 1.25m could be a massive bargain. The other bonus is that hopefully this means Aggy will continue playing through the middle.
will replace the bulgarian crab on the right and allow Gabby to play in the middle, good signing!
If Pterov is a crab what is NRC?
a sloath
NRC is a tank! Wayne will add some much needed creativity, balance the team going forward, all we need now is a RB to cover behind him
Another masterstroke of man management and motivation by MON in my opinion. I'll give you an 18 month contract in an up and coming young side challenging for europe. You prove to me that you can recapture your form and potential of two years ago and I'll reward you with a longer contract on better terms. Great signing in my opinion, a hungry player with a lot to prove. Welcome aboard Wayne, I look forward to seeing you in the famous claret and blue.
Well put, Jon.H. Exactly the kind of business deals we should be doing. I do believe Routledge has played with some of our players before on the Under 21 squad-can't hurt.
Hoo f'kin Ray!! A signing. A promising one too. It's more fun beating expensively compiled teams with players bought on a budget.
Adam Deuce
has been injured quite alot but keep him fit and he will be a good signing
We are 5th in the league and until now we aint had a right winger. Petrov has been supposedly playing right wing (although I haven`t seen it)!! For the rest of the season routledge has gotta be a better option than Petrov! We will have balance. 1.25m... BARGAIN!!
Welcome aboard Wayne. Good luck to him. Recapture his early career form and we have got a bargain here. If he fails, nothing lost, but I prefer to focus on the former. Too much negativity creeping onto here.
Well chuffed. Liked him as a Palace player, was a shame he got crocked at Spurs. He'll fit into the gameplan nicely methinks. Next !
1.25m for a player who'll give you balance is good money. He seems a little like Downing would be for us, not the player we really want or need but will be worth it for the balance he'll provide. I think you'll be pretty disappointed if you're expecting another Young though, he's not nearly as good as Young looked when Young was at Watford. Good luck with him though, hope it works out for both parties.
Glad you've bought him, he's too good to be sitting in the reserves for Spurs. Good little player, needs some confidence and a run in the team, and I'm sure he'll be well worth the money you've paid. Good luck WR!
Hoss the villian, did you not read the threads when the rumours appeared?? it never ceases to amaze me the negativity of some fans towards players and managers for that matter. in this case before he has even kicked a ball. its a joke how are we expected to get the best out of a player when he gets slated because of his price tag. but having said all that there are a number who are backing now. we just have make sure we're louder than the negative fans.
It is good money well spent robbojol10. In these days of over inflated fee's, he could very well prove to be a very astute signing.
