Blues Still Circling Cahill

If reports are true today, Blues are next in line to speak to Cahill after making a bid similar to Bolton.

What will annoy fans the most is that so called 'sources' close to the player are suggesting he would much prefer a move across the City and rejoin former team mate Liam Ridgewell in the doldrums of Birmingham, as opposed to joining McCann and Samuel up in Bolton.

Blues were knocked back on a deal rumoured to be around £4 million, but with Bolton taking the lead early last week, they have now reportedly matched that £5 milion bid and it's well known that Alex McLeish has been singing the praises of our young defender for quite a while.

We've even had Liam in the press lately 'inviting' his old/young friend to visit the lesser club.

'I'd like to see Gary join us. He just wants to play first team football. It would be good to link up with Gary again.

'People make a lot about the move between Villa and Birmingham but you just want to play football. You just want to play week in and week out.

'That's what I wanted and so does Gary now and I've got on well with the fans here.'

I like many, still don't believe we should be looking to sell Cahill anyway, like Ridgewell I don't see that Knight is anymore accomplished, valuable, and more importantly both Cahill and Ridge are at the age to improve further.

£5 million may be seen as fair, I think it's undervalued, but there are already too many Villans at St Andrews, there shouldn't be anymore.

You can't balme the lad for wanting to stay local. At the same time I wouldn't be happy if he went to Blues. I'd clearly rather he stayed. Saying that it was nice to see Gabby and the rest of the boys get one over Ridgewell earlier in the season.

Yes and Agent 002 will go in for the return match.....

I don`t want him to go but i do think its hilarious that blues want players that aren`t good enough for first team football at the villa. Look at ridge they made him captain and he is their best player. It goes to show how much of a lesser club they actually are. They even wanted baros!!!! Losers!

If we are so much of a lesser club you must be humiliated by the amount we have outspent you this window......

Are we going to invest all this money in training up a reserve team to play in blue across the city. There should be rules that prevent them playing against us. It could be seen as having an unfair advantage etc.

£5 million for our fifth choice central defender is not a bad piece of business for the club. Would be surprised if he opted for Birmingham, surely Bolton offer him the best long term prospects of continual premiership football.

I see Ridge had another fine game tonight that pass to the Sunderland striker was superb for their second goal. I can see Cahill having the same effect as Ridge. Wonder if he will score for us when we beat them at VP.

Was just going to say the same thing daveldvilla :P Was a cracking pass into the Sunderland new boy for their 2nd from Ridgewell.

One Liam Ridgewell! theres only one Liam Ridgewell (or maybe two if Cahill goes to the sty).

If young Gary has any sense, he'll steer well clear of The Big Eck, The Sty, and Ridge. Head for Bolton young man. A bigger club than Birmingham, and more likely to remain in the top flight for a season or two. Birmingham is just a yo-yo outfit, having spent most of a generation down with the losers in the lower leagues.
