Farewell to the Beard!

Vital Villa member Benham believes the final two games of the season should be dedicated to the departing legend in the making, Olof Mellberg.

I feel for the last 2 games of the season (Wigan at home and West Ham away) he should be made captain, as for the fans support and appreciation we could wear yellow t-shirts as per his native country Sweden! Name on the back too maybe? I myself will not be shaving so I can get 'Olofed' in the beard department.

Sticking with the traditions of the last away game fancy dress, I suggest this seasons theme should be Vikings or even the great man himself!! This of course will be his final game in the famous claret and blue.

Any other suggestions?

A true class act. Loved the way he was totally honest about the Blues too (even though it did backfire a few times!)

Absolute legend! I think a few tears will be shed at the end of the season by one and all. Thank you Olly.

Great thinking. He deserves a good send-off as he has served the club very well

I totally agree. His passion and commitment have been truly awesome in these times of fickle players. I wish him the best of luck and hope in years to come he'll return to us to coach or do something in the set-up. I will be exceptionally sad to see the great Northman go. UTV

I love this idea. Could be a good excuse to wear that old yellow Villa shirt one more time. Might even get Mellberg printed on the back. I know it's long before his time but I'm not gonna buy a Sweden shirt for two matches!

I had been dreading the day that he'd officially be leaving the club. Could not have a more honest and hard working player in the team. And i will always remember when he scored against arsenal, one of my favourite moments in recent seasons.

He also scored that top quality goal against Middlesbrough this season. World class control hehe. I'll be sad to see the bearded one leave. Who will win beard of the season once he's gone *sigh*

Yellow t-shirts is a good idea, I'll join in on that. Maybe a little viking hat could help as well. Good ideas there. So long Oof

Always dreaded him being snapped up and leaving BUT the timing is probably right now. For the first time since Olly joined us we have sufficient cover that his exit won't be a disaster. If he had left 2 or 3 seasons ago we would have really been in trouble. Thanks Olly for being such a good player and servant through difficult seasons. Genuine Villa legend.

Villa legend?? No. Good club servant?? Most definitely. I only wish he had sorted his contract out so that the club could have benefitted from a transfer fee. I do think that he actually deserves a great Villa send off though.

Villaaaah, First competitive goal at the Arab Emirates. He still has a Bloose slagging off in him before the next derby, excellent attitude even when played out of position.

One of a handful of dedicated players who kept us in the Premiership through the rough times. Be sad to see him go but wish him all the best. Villa legend ? Got to be close.

Excellent player who always gives 110% for the cause? Check. Proud to wear the Villa shirt every time he pulls it on? Check. First out and last in during the warm-up before a match? Check. Chips in with important goals even though he's not a forward? Check. Doesn't sound too dissimilar to a certain Villa Legend known as Ian Taylor, does it? Absolutely 110% a Villa Legend in my eyes and someone who will be sorely missed when he moves on - not quite God (Macca) but close enough to warrant praise.

i think the yellow shirts would be really good bit like arsenal did with bergkamp and the orange shirts! can anyone get in touch with the club maybe to spread the word??!

Great servant to the claret and blue cause. I wish him success and happiness as he heads off on pastures new. Gave his best years to AVFC.

Lets hope that he leaves VP with us having qualified for a UEFA Cup place, as opposed to the season just fizzling out, as have so many others during Olofs time here.
