Wayne Routledge In?

Routledge in?

We are today been linked with the wonder that is........ wait for it Wayne Routledge.

And infact the mirror goes one step further by suggesting that we have signed the Spudz flop!

The Mirror says Villa last night tied up a deal for Spurs outcast Routledge. The ex-England Under-21 midfielder has made just two appearances for Spurs this season and will become Villa's first signing of the window.

I really hope it isn't true! He is not the type of player we should be looking at signing. I would honestly prefer us to sign no one than us to sign him! He has only played for spudz 3 times!!!!!!

Altough he has been attracting interest from one of the richest clubs in the world, the mighty QPR. Oh dear oh dear! please don't let there be and truth in this.

Think we need a right winger, he was touted as a top player at one point and linked with England, think an injury put him back. Who knows these days?!?!

Right position..wrong player. Ordinary. Squad player IMO. Milner or Bentley please.

I hope this aint true but I predicted this I said before the window opened to my mate that he will be the kind of "quality" we`ll get. I actually mentioned his name. I also said we`d end up with titus bramble. If that one became reality I would definitely worry!

Milner or Bentley please! Living in fantasy land as neither are for sale (particularly to us). More sensible suggestions would be welcomed. Chimbonda is also being touted as a cert.

Spurs were playing him out of position......he is really a world class right back to replace the cave man :)

Its Harewood all over again. We should loan in some foreign players rather than sign mediocre clubbers

My initial reaction was...urgghh, but I work with loads of Spurs fans who say that he is quality and that they'd be gutted if he left, which surprised me. Apparently he was always really good for england under 21s...

He is cheap, the fans are worried we sign no-one else (bit like the "DJ twins transfer window of disappointment"), I can understand this. But MON has eluded that no premiership teams will now sell thier players (apart from us it seems!), as staying there is all that matters.

Do you honestly believe that Newcastle and Blackburn would sell Milner and Bentley respectively. I don't think any of us appreciate how tough it must be to sign players. especially at this time of year and given the current climate. Its easy for us to sit here saying wont MON just dangle cheques in front of clubs. If it were that easy why dont all the clubs with a bit of money do the same thing??? Why??? because it don't work like that!!!!!

Of course it's not easy to get players like Milner or Bentley. Nobody ever suggested it was, but that is the TYPE of quality we should be looking at, and if the neccessary quality is not available should we be buying Wayne Routledge? Decent player in a squad. Like Marlon, but not going to help get us to the next level. Remember, we were only about 10 minutes away from signing Milner last summer. As for Chimbonda, no thanks. talented but a mercanary who only interest is himself. Not MON's type of team player IMO

I think it could be a good shout tbh. If we can't get who we want right now surely it's better to have a competent specialist than a make-do and the new look Villa is all about attacking with pace, he would give us a far better balance on the right as he is a fast as ****. Routledge can do a job for us now and help us to cement our place in Europe so that we can attract a better RW in the summer and keep him as a good squad player. People keep moaning that we need numbers, well he may not set the world alight but he is a competent player in a position that we don't currently have a competent player.

MON won't give guarantees of first team football (unless your sirname is Petrov) to anyone, so why would they come here if they have already got it. If Spuz did not exist, would we have had any incoming rumours atall this year. Damn I hate those guys.

He showed a lot of promise and potential just a couple of years back, and was certainly highly rated. Has obviously lost his way since, for reasons I'm not aware of. Might be worth a gamble. The change of club and a new challenge might be just what he needs.

I tell you one thing if you were apotential target thinking of coming to Villa you would not read these forums and sign that is for sure, as you get slated before you even pull on a shirt. I know we all want BIG names, but we have not, and will not get them in for a time. Routledge was a real quality player (if a little big for his boots) when at Palace and I watched him many a time at Selhurst Park. His move to Spurs was ill advised after one good season in the Prem and it has not worked. MON has the reputation of getting the best out of players (petrov apart maybe), maybe just maybe Wayne could become an Ashley x2

Hope you are right fatloser. Maybe he may 'come good'. I suppose I am just hoping for one 'major' signing to get excited about, and try to cement the excellent progress we have made.

I've been keeping my eye on him since we palace in the cup about 4 years back, when he really impressed me. Since then he's looked good whenever he's played, but he's not played that much. The season palace went down he was, apart from andy johnson, their best player. He's no ronaldo, but he's not 1st div clugger either. From what I've seen of milners crossing in the last few years, he's every bit as good on the wing.

His heads too small, i don't trust him. But he is definately rated, he got unlucky that aaron lennon emerged same time as he was signed playing in same position.

Newcastle, Spurs, Man City all made 'big' signings in the summer and look where its got them Man City can't score a goal and get played off the park by a struggling championship team. Its all about getting players who you can work with and if MON thinks he can get something good out of Routledge then thats fine with me.

Notaspur is spot on. Routledge came with a reputation, was it not for a serious injury on the opening day of the season and the emergence of Aaron Lennon he would be a very good player. Not exactly top class but would be a very good squad player for Villa.

It's incredible sometimes on this board. If we're linked with players on their way out, everybody jumps up and yells "We have a small squad" and if we're linked with anybody the same lot jump up and start screaming "He isn't good enough, we don't need squad players, we need quality". The other one, of course is "WE don't need another Harewood!" You mean the same Harewood that most on here were asking to get a start last weekend. Make your bloody minds up. I for one would welcome Routledge, and to say you'd rather sign no one after complaining since January 1st about the fact that there is no action is just stupid. What you want is a plethora of Youngs and Agbonlahors, and it isn't going to happen. Having said that, with guidance etc. there's no reason the lad couldn't push towards that.

Carl, there are better players out there and in our position of likely European qualification for next year we need better players NOT squad players. Not saying we can buy like manure but they look a hundred times better than us and we need to bridge the gap even if it is little by little.

will all, with exeption of a few who actually understand how the transfer window works stop for a second and realise before a player can even talk to a club a fee has to be agreed between the clubs!!!!! If the club refuses to accept the fee for what ever the reason then it a none starter. So we can all sit here saying buy this player and buy that player we're not privilaged to the info and we have no idea how tough it is. But to slate a player before hes even signed to me is ridiculous.

I say go for it, as mentioned above, we need a pacey right winger and he will do just that, which in turn will make olly look better at right back as he has a specialist in front of him so doesn't need to do all the work getting forward down the right. Come on over to Villa Park Wayne, you are more than welcome!!!!

if we get him for nothing plus cash too take him out of spurs changing room then he can play for the reserves with harewood and i wont complain... other than that, i will resort to pascal, a late bid for defoe, someone from newcastle that can play football.... hmmmm? perhaps Milner? the rest are officially pony...... where's the European Targets?! Mon likes his English Breakfasts but surely theres teams in Europe that can afford too sell class??!!

All I'm saying is the lad has great potential and I know he could do a job.. give him a run in the team.. Just throwing him in and expecting miracles will not help. A run of games and he'll be right. Fulham's best run last season before they sacked Coleman was 10 unbeaten... (not many wins mind u!!) Routledge started 9 of them! It was around the time he scored that wonder finish against leicester in the carling cup.. The ability is there.. Can MON get it out of him is the question.. Come on in Wayne. I like good quality english wingers!
