Claret or beaujolais?

Father Christmas gave me a 81 replica shirt last year. He always knows what I want.........I suspect my family tip him off. Anyway I was pleased to see that my memories were correct. It's claret.....real claret, not Beaujolais (had to look up the spelling).

I was there at Highbury that day with my uncle, him 50 odd and me 14. He said to me as the celebrations went on, 'you are lucky to see this so young'. He had waited all his life.

That wonderful old man has gone now, but I wonder what he would have made of the lightening of the claret. I suspect he would have just wondered why. For me its not trendy. I think it moves us away from our wonderful tradition.

Worse, the 'ammers' stick with real claret and they stole the colours from us in the first place. With all the good news about tradition being so important to the new dawn at villa, lets get back to real claret.

What do you all think?

Afterthought........ Is it too late to sue West ham, Burnley, etc?

This quite a good article but I have often thought that the kit was alot darker that the ones I have grown up with (my first memories being the 94 kit) The old Mita Copies shirt may be the last one with the traditional colours. Wait for it........ (someone is bound to correct me)

Well dannyvello I too was at Highbury on that fatefl day, I was also in Rotterdam to witness our greatest day. I think it would be nice to see our old shirts back, but part of me thinks its does no good going back. But hay what do I know??? Not much the wife would say LOL

I was there too and I received the away shirt from 81 at Christmas. I just read the article and said to the mrs that I want it ironed for the match tonight so I can wear it! I don't like the modern kits, hate the sponsors name on it. I have the 57 cup final retro shirt as well. Tradition is good.

I personally think the current shirt is the best in years (It's the first one I've bought since I was at school - I'm nearly 33). However I would like to bring something to peoples attention. I can't remember where I read this but I do remember reading somewhere that on very early Aston Villa team photos (which were clearly in black and white) the caption under the photo described the shirts as chocolate brown and blue!! So maybe we are all wrong and to be truly in keeping with the tradition of the club we should all be wearing brown & blue! Maybe it's just down to clothing dye technology not being quite as good back then.

Saw you guys today v Liverpool colour looked more to me like a poofy lavender colour. Poofy colour and a poofy performance to match, bye bye Champs League hello mid table slide back to a poofy nothingness existence.

What is more important to Villa fans, a thread to describe the important game with Liverpool and then an opportunity for fans to discuss it or back in the days of purple not pink? Think I might choose football over shirts.
