Funny What A Night's Sleep Will Do!

Funny What A Night's Sleep Will Do!

Funny what a good night's sleep will do!

Like every dyed in the wool Aston Villa supporter who has access to a computer, these last two weeks have been torment. I was logging on at every opportunity, looking anxiously at all the reports, reading the speculation and hoping and hoping that perhaps some of the links and tie ups that have been suggested by the hacks of Fleet Street and beyond may be true. Yes, I know 95% of that which has been written is lazy journalism, sources have not been checked and reports have not been verified, but one has hopes.

Take, for instance, those reports that Jermain Defoe had been seen at Bodymoor Heath and was buying a house in Kidderminster, Lichfield or wherever. It transpires, at least according to the Sky News reports, that our beloved leader had not even spoken to the man in question let alone invited him to take up residence in the Midlands.

That report gutted me. Defoe may not be the very best, but he is the sort of player we should be looking to add to our small but very excellent band of warriors. You see, like most of you reading this, I badly want Villa to be a success again. We have had twenty five wasted years and now, at last, things are beginning to look up. We have everything in place to begin the new era - a new owner, one of the best managers in the business and a team who are playing out of their skins.

However, everyone knows that we have a very small squad and that we have been very, very lucky with injuries so far this season. The question we are all asking, subconsciously at least, is can our luck hold with regard to injuries. I keep asking myself questions like, 'What if Olof Mellberg and Craig Gardner were both injured?' for a start. Or perhaps you could perm Gareth Barry and Wilf Bouma or Big John and Gabby. You see where I'm going?

So, as I said, the report that Defoe does not appear to be on MON's radar, which, coupled to the facts that there appears to be no progress with any other signings, had me gutted and I responded. I wrote a comment that reflected my frustration. What are we doing, are there any plans for new players etc? I went to bed last night, having read the blogs on this site, full of anxieties and worries. I wondered how well I would sleep.

Surprisingly, I slept well and I woke up this morning with a new take on the situation. Hallelujah, suddenly I have hope and a radical change of attitude. I cannot now understand what I was worrying about. You see, I can't do anything about it no matter how much I worry and agitate. No not a thing, so why worry?

As I said, we, Aston Villa, that is, are paying a top class human being who is an excellent manager and motivator to do our worrying for us so, from now on I am going to leave it up to him. He knows and understands exactly how we all feel about Aston Villa. He might have joined us Villans comparatively lately, but he only had to be at Villa Park for one day to know how we all feel, particularly with the dreaded Ellis out of the way. We have hope and expectation and an undying love for a very special team. (The Barcodes supporters have nothing on us) So from now on, like a number of you on the various Vital Villa blogs, I have a new adage 'In MON we trust', I am going to keep to that and I urge all Villa supporters to do the same.

Anyway, agitating about it won't change a thing. Give Martin the chance to do the job. I really believe he knows what he is doing.

Excellent write. Very true BUT I would still like to see two or three players arrive and NOT let Cahill go to the unwashed. I hope there is some truth in the Defoe rumours, but if we could only sign one player this 'window' I would opt for a natural wide right player. Milner or Bentley would be fantastic but I don't think Barcodes or Blackburn would sell.

We are all passionate about our club, can't help but worry and stress, rejoice and celebrate etc etc. The passions run high and then so do the emotions!

If you think its so easy to throw your worries away, then great for you, but for me it's chaos, i now see Newcastle have 70m to spend and have already been linked to alot of our hopefuls, like Defoe and SWP. Everyone is going on about we need a right back is thats correct but we have two players to go at rb for now who have we got on the right ? No one, but if we was able to sign Defoe, it would mean we could drop Agbonlahor to the right wing, and have Defoe upfront with Carew..... I can see us getting something from Liverpool with this team, At anfield they will have to attack otherwise the fans will turn on them, which means we can do what we do best counter attack, make the defenders panic give away set pieces and there goals the ball flying in the net :D

I don't think this is about giving up hope, we are all on the edge of our seats for the next two weeks. We need to make sure we don't generate a feeling of negativity, which will reinforce and cause a spread of the discontent. Just remember Doug is gone, DOL is gone, we won't be getting a Dr Jo, or a Graham Turner, or a Billy McNeill. The team is stuffed full of Villa academy lads, we've got born and bred Villa fans in the squad and a win on Monday will put us three points clear in forth place, if thats not good enough then theres a club in the north east who will welcome you with open arms!

I can not for get about it! I am 15, i have had a season ticket since i was five and have been addicted to the club ever since i have been to every game for the last three seasons' home and away, apart from the liverpool game this season, as i was on holiday. but i found it on in a bar after much searching! i can not even concentrate at school when the transfer is open. I got kicked out of my I.T class for jumping up and down when i though we were in talks with defoe. I CAN NOT FORGET ABOUT IT!

villavillavilla, you are showing signs of having a very serious addiction! ;-) The Fear is quite right - life has to be put into its right perspective - you have your life's priorities, and when you're at school the Villa is NOT one of them... Please try to work on it to cut down the addiction, and keep your Villa joy to *some* of your leisure time.

I remember being like villavillavilla when I was 15, BUT that was a VERY long time ago (Villa were in the 3rd Division at the time, and I too went to all the home and away games). As you get older your priorities do change, but the passion is still there. Understand exactly where the youngster is coming from, but believe in MON, he will do what is best for the club LONG term.

Yes, sir, VillaVillaVilla IS quite understandable - but don't - PLEASE - support his attitude!!! Being sent out of a key class at school is not at all clever! ... Nor worthwhile.
