Laursen New Deal Confirmed

The club have just announced that Martin Laursen has signed a new two-and-a-half-year deal.

The Danish defender has been a rock at the back and scored 6 goals putting him up with John Carew and just one behind top scorer Gabby Agbonlahor.

Martin O'Neill told the official site: "We have had excellent discussions and everyone at Aston Villa is delighted he is staying on. He has been playing some wonderful football for us this season and deserves everything he gets. I know the supporters will be as delighted as I am and I think it is also what Martin wanted. His determination to overcome serious injury is an object lesson to anybody and he has shown tremendous courage. The results are there for all to see."

Phew, great signing, now lets get Defoe and a right-back in and we'll all be smiling won't we?!?

Great news, now hopefully this will start MON off signing a few players to help us get to europe. Because I cannot see our squad lasting till the end of the season.

I'm gay or owt but I f'in love Laursen, I'm 25 is it wrong that he is my idol. It great to see someone give their all for the team every game and pay back everyone for sticking with him, great news
deano_t
What does this mean for Gary Cahill?
coops1889
Cahills days could be numbered and what a shame, so much potential, MON should reconsider.
bellywipes
im very happy, I think if barr ywasnt captain then this man should definetly get it, wel ldone to him too, never gave up and has genuine desire to play the game, unlike some sulky players who dont know how good they got it never having a serious injury
krisvilla
Laursen has been simply breathtaking so far this season, what a bargain he was. Glad to see hes seen sense and signed again. Any way the big flag thing at villa has caught on. Birmingham are doing the same thing so i hear but the fans have suggested a flag to engulf the entire ground and to keep it on them for all of the match!!!! Mcfadden who!!!
bellywipes
Its a start..we are moving even if it is at a ever so slow pace but MON delivered last january so theres no reason why he shouldnt in this one.
villabikes29
I am so glad he has signed. what a absolute legend!
Eaton_thevillafan
Just brilliant news! Just now waiting to hear that we've signed Defoe and Boswinga (or whatever his name is) from Porto.
villacross
You want us to sign a player villacross whose NAME you're not even sure of, let alone his ability. Now I've heard it all...I think.
glensider
What a relief! This guy is God mark 2. Now for Defoe.
Madirish
Blasphemy! There is only one true god, and you shalt not have false idols before him.
The Usual Suspect
The best news of January so far!!!!
