Villa - Keep Right On

Villa - Keep Right On

At the start of the campaign I was upset with the quality of signings. I for one slated the signing of Nigel Reo-Coker. How wrong I was. Although not gifted he does his job well and gives 110%.

I have been VERY impressed with the team this season. The jury is still out on Harewood but building the squad is what we need to do. Zat Knight has surprised me as he has done well along with Curtis Davies who I believe will have a very bright future. Ashley Young’s price tag was massive but for me has proved his worth. His delivery especially from set pieces is top drawer.

No matter where we finish this year and how we perform Martin Laursen will be getting my Player of the Season vote. He has been absolutely superb. The knee injury is now behind him and for 3 million pounds we have had a result in his services. Great in the air both defending and set pieces coupled with tremendous reading of the game and tenacity. Martin O'Neill needs to sort out his new contract as the other defenders can learn a lot from him.

I think I can now say I trust MON with his signing ability as I am a very judgmental person. Nothing to moan about so far. We all know that the games we drew this season we should have won, now by those standards we'd be in definite nosebleed territory !

I did my sums and winning the drawn games would have put us second ! Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I think we could use Shaun Maloney better as I believe this kid has lots of potential and I am glad he is staying. I would like to see him play behind John Carew and Gabby Agbonlahor. I believe all we need now is a pacey right sided midfielder and obviously 2 orthodox right-backs at least along with a clinical forward. Apart from that, no complaints so far and my thanks to the side making my weekends more enjoyable. Bring two or 3 more in this transfer window and that fourth spot may not seem so distant as it has in the past 10-15 years !

Keep up the good work lads and well done !

My vote goes to the luck fairy and the medics that have kept the smallest squad in the Premiership so injury free. But then I would I live in the real world

Well said. MoN has a style all of his own, and I can see why people get upset, but if it works in the long term, and we compete on a regular basis (not just a couple of seasons and then fade away) I am sure all Villa fans will be happy.

Having cover for an out of form Petrov, a right back and someone to replace Carew when he gets injured every other week and we might have won both the Premiership and Serie A at the same time too. Be thankful we have over achieved, hope we continue to do so and look forward to achieving higher than 6th on goal difference, when a few more pennies spent by Ellis might have got us European qualification. Certainly the money Lerner has spent in 2 seasons would have helped us get those extra few goals back then.

Good positive upbeat post Crosswesleyanchapel, made for a good read. Its hard to believe that the knives were out by some for MON earlier in the campaign, and their negative reaction still very much puzzles and concerns me. All is not glitter and gold at Brummagem B6 yet, but we're certainly getting there in a hurry.
