O'Neill Loves The Transfer Window

O'Neill Loves The Transfer Window

Martin O'Neill has once again stated how much he loves the transfer windows and enjoys dealing within the time constraints.... or at least I think that is what he is trying to say!

The Villa boss said on avfc.co.uk, 'I think the January transfer window is a nonsense. You can butter it up all you like, but it's a nonsense. It puts an enormous strain on football clubs knowing they can't do business from February 1 onwards to try and bring in some players. Their whole season could rest on what they did in the transfer window. There has been a general price hike anyway because of the TV money but you can imagine what it's like when it's condensed into one month.'

'Ironically, we had a super January when we took on Ashley Young. It was £8m at the time. There was a flutter of eyelids at the tag, even though now we realise what great value he's been. We swapped John Carew with Milan Baros, which I think was good business for the football club and Shaun Maloney came in at the 11th hour. All three players have made major contributions.'

'The same thing is expected this time around but every club is chasing the same type of player. You could pick out five quality players and I'm sure every one of them would add something to the squad. Going out and getting them is a different issue. Going out and getting them in January is a different issue again.'

Sod that, just bid....they'll come.... easy as!!!!!!!!!!!!

The pressure is certainly on but surely to pursuade players to come when we are 6th and equal on points with the fourth place team is an easier task than last year, lets get some top business done and see where the season takes us, we surely can't be as lucky in the run up to the end of the season as we have been up til now with injuries and suspensions?

I expect us to close some deals this week. We've got a bit of momentum about us right now, and people can see we're level with 4th place Liverpool. The iron is hot Mr O'Neill, STRIKE NOW.

I am just happy we are doing the business on the pitch. When something happens i will get excited. There are two many things that can screw a deal up,so fingers crossed we can get some lads in.Just looked at the league table and thought..F**k me, with abit of luck we could maybe get 4th!!..have we come some way or what in 1 and a half seasons!!...UTV

I think the larger squads will inevitably take the fourth spot, most liekely liverpool, although they've stopped looking up and should be worried about the teams on the same points as them. Good times for Villa, finally after the taylor/odreary era

well said onelovevilla, Im sure fans think all you need to do is click your fingers dangle a chequebook and the player comes running... Its about careful bidding and then skilled negotiations... Maybe you can just throw money at players and they il come running but all you end up with is a Newcaste scenario, the players running the club. I for one am totally happy with MON slow measured approach to eam building. More of the same I hope..

I see Liverpool are chasing Defoe and my guess is if he has a choice he will go there. I often think Defoe has an inflated opinion of his abilities and so believes he should be the number one at one of the top four. This despite the fact that two different managers at Spurs have him as fourth choice because they have three better ones. As for other strikers I am not sure, we are linked with Doyle but on todays performance i can't see why. Whoever we buy I am sure MON will get more out of them and improve them it what he seems to do. The performance today was superb and the front three of Gabby, Carew, and Young were outstanding. Really looking forward to rest of the season.

Why do people think defoe has this bad attitude? I'm not sure what he's ever done to deserve that. The guy has consistently bagged goals no matter what we think we need, not to mention the fact he's never once moaned about wanting to play, only said when his contract is up for renewal that he wants to be playing regularly before he signs one. I think the guy is quality and would be a major asset to our squad. I'd be willing to bet if pool did go in for him, that we'd still be in with a better shout, as he'd probably be in a worse off position in terms of playing time, esp given benitez's rotation style.
