Sam Rules Out Sale Then Gets Sacked

Sam Rules Out Sale Then Gets Sacked

Well, well, well.

Big Sam, the then Newcastle United boss, had all but dismissed any links for player sales from The Toon with Villa and Man City having been tipped to sing Obafemi Martins.

Allardyce said: 'We have had no contact with Villa or City about Obafemi Martins, but I can tell them - and anybody else, for that matter - that he is not for sale. In any case, I don't know how anybody can be expected to sign Martins when he is away in the African Nations Cup until the start of next month. It gets back to speculation again, which is one of the biggest distractions of the January window.' Adding, 'Not only is it speculation about what you are bringing in, but unrest can be caused to your players who people are speculating might go out. Even though there might be no truth in it, that player might think I don't want him any more and am trying to sell him, and that can be very disruptive. That's why this window is a very dangerous one indeed.'

Dangerous indeed, but no longer for Sam as Newcastle United have done what Newcastle United always do, and have sacked their manager.

Not sure whether that gives us more or less chance of signing Martins, probably less I'd guess. What a strange club, all set up with a great support but they can't choose a decent manager and when they do, they expect him to turn around their fortunes in just 6 months.

I tell you what, I'm after a slice of that pie, I'll apply for the job, do a terrible job (I like to aim high) and then get a few million as a pay off. That'll do nicely.

I'd love to hear Man City and Villa sing Obafemi Martins, maybe to the tune of Life on Mars or something. Seriously though, how can the Newc fans moan when they've been asking for it since the third game of the season. Pfft, fickle as *****.

Well Laursen's not going to the bar-codes then! The Geordies are probably the most deluded fans in the Premiership - just what exactly do they want? 100mph football, silverware from dirty 1-0 wins or players that play with their hearts on their sleeves? You can't have it all.... Look at Chelsea under Mourinho and closer to home, look at MONs 1st season in charge - we didnt see pretty football last season, results werent spectacular, yet we stuck by our guns and supported our manager, players, owners (our club!!) through it all - we gave and are giving them time. As Gandalf said in Lord of the Rings, what is important is what you do with the time that is given to you.... Mike Ashley has played the good guy and cynics could say that he's played the fans against the manager so that he gets the backing, and the manager gets the flack when things go wrong...!? Anyway, Laursen is staying put, and thank god we have MON and Randy!! UTV!

We was a club that sacked managers for years, in fact Deadly was the man who began this trend. But to be honest football fans demand so much from fooballers and managers alike, but the truth is, very few would give there employers the commitent they demand from there footballers/managers. Chairmen often react to fans discontent and who's the scape goat "the manger"... We are very lucky we have the manager and chairman we do.....

6 months to turn their fortunes around. No doubt Shearer will take the job now. Far too much too soon surely?

Madness, sheer madness. And it will get even madder if Shearer, a man whose management experience stands at zilch, gets the job. As for Obafemi Martins. That rumour/link was never worth comment anyway.
