Villa Transfer Rumours Hot Up

According to the Daily Mail, amongst others, Martin O'Neill is lining up a bid for Reading striker Kevin Doyle who has also been linked to Chelsea. Thread in our forum about Doyle: Click Here

Doyle this season has made 19 starts and come off the bench in another game. He has been replaced 6 times and has five premiership goals. Fellow Reading striker David Kitson has 8 PL goals in 16 starts and 2 bench appearances.

The Daily Mail also claim we will move for Arsenal right-back Justin Hoyte. A right-back for Villa? Now there's a thought!

Other reports suggest out of favour goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen could move to Derby County for around £1m. Conversley Derby's 19-year-old midfielder Giles Barnes has again been linked to Villa for around £3.5million.

The Guadian meanwhile says that Villa have been alerted to the possible availability of Spurs striker Jermain Defoe who has been told by manager Ramos that he can leave.

The report says that O'Neill has been a long time admirer of the England international player and that the valuation will not put him off. According to Defoe, in an interview with the Sun, 'The manager has said I can leave if I want ? but I want to prove him wrong. I want to stay here.' Adding he thought the manager had called him in to tell him he was playing in the Carling Cup, 'But he just said 'You can leave if you want to'. Yet I have no intentions of leaving this club because I love it here. I would love to sign a new contract, and I know people at the top of the club want me to stay. But no-one can expect me to sign a new deal if I can't get a game.'

Surely if he wants to stay, he'll have to sign a deal ??!!

Defoe will never come to Villa, he loves the London Nightclub scene and Z List Celebrity life style. Do we really want a player like this?
KSarge1
In a word... no.
DVall
and besides he's a frothing Christian, evangelism may upset the dressing room????
Jongekki
I thought defoe wasn't into all the scene? He's meant to be a god fearing church boy. He clearly holds the club in his affections but wants to play. I think he has always had a great attitude, never hear him making a stink, just gets on and does the business when he plays. Bring him in if poss!
johnnyuk
Yeah i agree he'd be good. Who cares about his personal beliefs? At least he's not a waster like so many others. I've never heard of him doing granny prostitutes like one Man Utd centre forward i can think of.
The Usual Suspect
Doyle no...Kitson yes! He is english as well and he is better. I wont stop my blathering until we get him. Come on Fear..I know you are on this train too!
tylervilla
Defoe, Maybe Kitson, YES Doyle, Maybe

Do you think the papers read this forum to get there stories? Anything that appears on here is in the paper a few days later. Let's try one - I heard today that we are interested in Blackburn's Matt Derbyshire.
CLVilla
Sorry - "their stories" obviously.

I would have Doyle ahead of Harewood, Moore or Moloney any day. He is a quality striker, great header of the ball, great pace and I reckon he would slot in perfectly into the villa team.
whyvilla
I agree Doyle is a class player and he is still young he would be a brilliant signing and a lot cheaper than Defoe
Beefy10
Jongekki, Why would be so upset and judgemental about someone's personal belief. Would you suggest Reo-Coker and General Krulak have upset thing's at the club, as they are Christian's too?
Nigel-not-Reo
Signing Defoe would up our WAG status. It would be nice to see Ms Lloyd around VP - Not that I'd expect to see her up the Holte!!!!!
Adam Deuce
Rumours, while nice to ponder over and debate, mean absolutely nothing. I want to see some incoming action, an injection of true quality to ensure that the campaign doesn't just fizzle out disappointingly. Come on Martin, its over to you.
