Sunday Papers Villa Transfer Gossip

There is limited gossip about Villa's potential transfers in the Sunday press this weekend.

The Sunday Mercury say that Villa are still weighing up a big for Derby County teenager Giles Barnes.

The News of the World claim that Villa have been approached by six clubs for the services of striker Marlon Harewood who arrived from West Ham for around £3.7million in the summer but has regularly not even made the bench and has rarely played for Villa.

Apparently the bids for the 28-year-old have all been for loans for the rest of the season. The paper name Boro, Derby, Watford and Stoke amongst potential suitors.

Surely if he can't even make the bench when we are so short then he needs to be loaned to get some regular football? There have been some games where we have been screaming out for a different option but he is rarely used. He hasn't started one Premiership game yet, has been on the bench 15 times and only come on 6 times. He has one league cup goal to his name.

Finally the News of the World say that Matty Taylor is a major target for Gary Megson's Bolton with Villa, Everton and Middlesbrough also considering a bid. He always looks decent to me and capable of scoring but he can't hold down a regular place for Pompey at the moment, so why would he take Villa to the next level?

Glad I'm not the one having to make these decisions, I'd be useless.

I feel sorry for Harewood, he hasn't moaned once but must be gutted surely that he has come here as a fresh start and just isn't getting a chance, even as a late sub? Villa always seem to bring in players that they never use, a habit I really wish we'd lose.

Agree with you Mr Fear. Also thanks for keeping this site going. I have been posted to Korea for a few weeks and it is such a relief to have access to a corner of England!! Shame about yesterday though, really thought that would be the day.

Matty Taylor would be a great option. He can deliver a great cross and could work wonders with a combination of Barry. Bouma and Young out the left. However I think we could do with him left-wing with Young over on the right were we are REALLY limited at the minute. We are becoming to predictable - I always look at our oppositions RB to see how we will fare - if our opposition marks Young out of the game we have limited options elsewhere!! We need more balance on both flanks - which we will not get with Mellberg and Petrov - two central players!!

I agree, he must be a real dissappointment to MON in training if he won't consider him in front of the ineffective Luke Moore. He seems like he has the strength, pace and determination to trouble defences, and certainly doesn't have anything lacking in attitude, and as we saw at VP he can score when given the opportunity. Therefore, MON must be seeing something lacking in training that we don't.

Get Marlon OUT even if on loan. He is surely behind Carew, Gabby, Luke and Shaun in the hierarchy. Even if Carew comes off we try to replace him with Luke and expect him to do as good a job at holding the ball up. Long balls need to stop even if Carew is on the pitch and we should vary things. Young was useless yesterday as he couldn't draw any fouls as they just stood off him and waited for him to make a move and unless he varies things he will be found out by the rest of the Prem too.

The people have also linked us with Lens left back John Calve :s

This transfer window is even slower than the last one....I canne take it. Just get it over with MON and sign the Hesk, neil lennon and muzzy izzet. There is no point putting it off any longer!

we dont need matt taylor, we have maloney, i would rather see maloney play than bringing in another left sider.
06/01/2008 14:21:00
You say you're glad you are not making the transfer decisions because "I'd be useless". Well, I don't think many of us would have made the mess of it MON did last summer. I feel sorry for Harewood too but how many would have even considered buying him?

Trouble with me Saurat is I'd want every bloody player going! lol at Tylervilla. And gordon, how much did you cost in postage to get to Korea?
