'57 Heroes To Be Honoured

With Aston Villa taking on Manchester United in the F.A. Cup on Saturday afternoon, the heroes of the last claret and blue cup final win will be honoured before kick-off.

It’s 51 years since Aston Villa were the holders of the F.A. Cup and the club have opted to use Saturday’s match to honour the members of the cup winning squad. Nigel Sims, Peter McParland and Jackie Sewell will all attend the game and will be presented to the crowd before the game starts. Pre-match highlights will include video footage of the match that finished 2-1 to the Villans.

McParland of course is the goal scoring hero that early on managed to knock out Manchester United keeper Ray Wood, who following treatment returned to the game as a makeshift forward, with Northern Irish international Jackie Blanchflower (brother of former Villa player Danny) deputising in goal.

The official Aston Villa website points out that tickets are still available for the fixture.

Nice touch, and sunny day forecast, bonus!
The Fear
Hope the ManYoo fans are respectful towards it.

I would love to be there - have recently been reading the match reports from the final - sounds like we overrun them - including a young Bobby Charlton. My only negative thought is it does remind everyone how long it's been since we won the bloody thing!!!!!!

Big Nige in goal, Peter Mac up front, we might just have a chance.

There should be enough Villa supporters to shout down and dissent from the Manyoo brigade. A traditional Villa shirt should be the order of the day.

nice touch - history should never be forgotten!

Good to see the Villans of '57 once again. Once a Villan, always a Villan. Good health to them all.
