Steal Alan Hutton From Rangers?

Alan Hutton from Glasgow Rangers : Please MON Steal him NOW!

This may seem like headline stealing but it is too important to be just speculation and chat on the transfer thread.

There is no one that could deny our crying need is for a right back and Alan Hutton is just too good to miss.

The urgency is prompted by the fact that it is already panic time and in danger of being a missed opportunity as it has just been on Sky News that Spurs are in discussions. I will be gutted if he goes there without the opportunity of at least being spoken to by Villa and potentially persuaded and stolen from under Spurs noses by Martin O'Neill.

Don't be too slow off the mark. MON will have his shopping list but I cannot believe Hutton should not be on it. Hopefully he is already on our radar.

Two bits from an earlier thread.....:

stennyvilla If we could sign just one player then for me it would be right back Alan Hutton from Glasgow Rangers - a young player who already looks like the finished product and who can play the ball as well as defend. He looked great for Scotland up against Italy and France. Has been linked with Man Utd and now in talks with Spurs, but not even in our poll list of possible purchases.

rdunbar100 I would go for Hutton as well he has proved his quality with several good games for Rangers and Scotland and I think he would switch to the Premiership very easily.

Hopefully MON knows exactly the right back he wants and will get him this Jan.

I agree Fear. There's a lot of hype about this bosingwa deal. I think we've just gotta keep the faith and hope he works his magic. Would be very disappointed to see no right back at the club end of jan.

The bosingwa deal seems to be off after his club stated that they want 20million for him. I think Justin Hoyte is a more interesting option.

Yes, rumour has it that Hutton, an unknown quantity to me, is talking to Tottenham. If he's as good as they say though, he's surely the type of individual we should be competing for.

Sky are reporting that Hutton has turned down Spurs although the two clubs had agreed a fee. They havn't given any reasons but apart from the obvious reason for not going to Spurs he might be holding out for Man U. I have never seen him but others rate him and compared to 20 million for Bosingwa he would be a good buy.

Hmmm if he turns down Spurs he's hardly gonna join Villa now is he? Must admit would be handy in the claret and blue though. Whatever happened to Mark DeLaney then boys?

Any team would be lucky to have him - he's a fine player indeed.

Apparently he hasn't turned it down after all, and is merely considering his options for the next few days. He's got to mull it over with his family. That gives us the time we need to steal in there with a matched offer. If MON wants him, he'll definitely have the time.

Well, that's what i'm saying...if he ever did want him, he'll at least have the time to do something about it. If he doesn't, then we obviously won't make an offer. Whatever happens, i trust MON's decision to the end.

Fergie also rates Hutton highly according to various quotes i've read. Makes me think he could be putting a cheeky bid in & that's why the player is biding his time. I would have thought with MON's reputation up in Scotland, he might have a decent crack at persuading the player that Villa is the place to be.

one thing's for sure, we'll need more than that youngster Stearman from leicester at right back.

I've heard Hutton is a huge Rangers fan. MON's Celtic connection could go against us even if he is interested in signing him.

Whose to say now that MON views a new right full back as a matter of urgency, following on from Olof's stand-in performances since the campaign started? I certainly think we do, as do the majority of supporters, but whether MON shares our thinking is another matter. Maybe he just wants a young back up player for that position, as opposed to a ready made first team regular? That would explain why perhaps he's looking at the likes of Stearman.

Agreed Glensider, Olly has stood in well at RB but if we have asperations of europe then even MON must realsie we need a RB with experience to walk straight in the team because it looks likely Olly will be moving on in the summer! i wouldn't be too disapointed if we signed Hoyte but 20m is a no go for Bosingwa. I'll keep the faith then review it when the window closes.

Olly has been an inspiration at RB. So heres a question. If we buy an RB will he drop Olly or one of the Centre halves to accomodate him???? interesting times we live in!!!!

We should be in there like a shot Hutton would fit in this team like a glove, he fits the bill in that he is british and young enough for the side. He is an exciting player and can cross a ball at pace and is acurate as well. I think that he would come to us if we put a bid in for him.

I think he is holding out for a top 4 club, but i dont think they will come in for him. He definately wants a club in Europe, we have a better chance than Tottenham of landing him. I just cannot see him leaving Rangers for Villa after the comments he made. As Maloney has stated he still wonders if he can make it at the premiership level, so I think that this guy is the same. I think we might loan Henric Larsson until the summer.

If and when we do get a RB Olof would be put back in CB were he is the strongest, don't get me wrong he has been great playing RB but he tends to tire out towards the end of the games, the likes of Davies and Knight were brought in to bolster the squad and then had to step in straight away when Olof was moved out to the right and IMO they have both upped there game. At least we now know that when Olof Mellberg leaves they will be fighting for his place. Hutton would fit in nice and it would be a good bye for Villa but the qeustion is will he want to move to Villa Park.

Hutton seems reluctant for whatever reason to move down south. Would imagine Spurs offered him a decent package.
