Fans Split On Defoe Link

Vital Villa asked:

With constant links, would you like Jermain Defoe at Villa?

Yes please (46%)
No thanks (44%)
Unsure (10%)

Jon.H said: I don't personally think Defoe offers us anything that we haven't got already. I think, with all the apparent disarray at Newcastle, we should have a punt on James Milner before they sack Allardyce and get Shearer in.

Villan444: Good call Jon. He should be top of MON's list. Another young Brit too. Luke and Harewood need to be swapped for someone who is already World Class proven. Defoe is a one trick pony who will shoot on site where ever he is on the pitch and can't run with it unlike Gabby but MON won't want his attitude disrupting things surely.

davedlvilla: I agree about Defoe I think that Gabby now is arguably as good and in another season will be better. I also think Milner and Kitson are worth a try but I am not sure either Newcastle or Chelski will sell. A right back we do need and I guess is top of the list.

Phartman87, a Spurs fan, said: Despite the reputation he seems to have picked up as a bit of a diva he's never rocked the boat at spurs and has always said the right things, even though his once bright future has been confined to the bench for a year and a half. People question his ability and workrate but the guy definitely knows where the back of the net is, 18 goals last year (from the bench) and on course for a similar amount this term. With young, carew, barry, gabby and co he'd bang in 15-20 goals a season easy. (Although i want to keep him) if you do buy a striker you could do alot worse.

Glensider added: The way he put away the Spurs equaliser this evening suggests to me that he'd be quite an asset here at B6. Agree with Phartman87. He knows how to finish.

I must admit the way he finished against us on Tuesday just shows what quality he is, he only had the one chance all game but he took it with no messing around!

Fair enough he did finish his chance well on tuesday night but I also remember a couple of other occassions in the game where he went head down for goal when he could have laid it back to others in a better position. I guess if you compare him with Luke on tuesday he took his chance where Luke didn't. However Luke is only playing due to injury and I can't foresee Defoe playing ahead of Gabby or JC at the moment so would we want to pay £10m + for a substitute? I hope MON isn't thinking about moving Gabby out to the right again.
Jon.H
have to agree that if he isn't seen as first choice, there would be little point, especially as he is a well paid sub at the moment.
The Fear
Defoe would go to a top 4 club I think. And I dont think MoN will sign a striker.Did he not say something last month about how well the fowards were doing.

Anybody think that Kitson from Reading would be a better bet? He seems to have class in front of goal and can also head the ball so would be good cover for Carew when missing. His finish against spurs in the 6-4 loss was class...just what we need!!
tdiddyo
Kitson or Doyle would be worth a shot,a good enough bid and they could go.
Pking
We definitely need to strengthen our forward strength. Luke is experiencing a poor run of form for whatever reason, Marlon is seemingly so out of favour its untrue, while Big JC, dare I suggest it, seems a little bit injury prone. We're in a great position to seriously challenge for a top six finish. Why play with fire when by speculating this month, we could really reap the benefits come May? A long term injury to Gabby and we'd be struggling somewhat.
glensider
The rumours have been rumbling around for a long time so MON must have some interest. But I think we have seen the best from him and MON could get better or as good out of someone else maybe.
Villan444
Agree with your sentiments Glensider, just not convinced that Defoe is the best option for the money he would cost.
Jon.H
Agree totally with Gelnsider. We need some bolstering up front. Defoe would be an improvement to the current stock, and would maybe pave the way for Moore to move on. Kevin Doyle is a great forward who along with Defoe, Gabby and JC would give us plenty of options. On another note, I'm really sad that Harewood hasn't had a run in the team. He had one bad season at West Ham, but otherwise has a really great record.
evoflash
Harewood did himself no favours with his shocker at White Hart Lane. I admit he's looked keen since then but he was never going to be a first choice starter was he?
