Spurs Fan Talks To Vital Villa

1) So, not the season you were expecting, what is going on at Spurs?

Disappointing start, you could see the confidence drain from the players as the season went from one disappointment to the other, however with the recent upturn in our form under Ramos, we still have an outside chance for a European place, but games like this are essential that we don't lose. I was slightly disappointed with our home result against yourselves as we have come to expect scoring four goals as the minimum these days.

2) Where, realistically, do you see yourselves finishing now?

I would like to think that we can still look to finishing between 5th and 8th, our target teams must be Everton, Man City, and Villa and ourselves for these placings. I would like to think that we can overhaul Newcastle, West Ham etc and hope that while we finish strongly others above us fade as the season takes its toll

3) Berbatov is obviously quality but is he also a spoilt sod who wants out or a player that you will be able to keep?

This time yesterday I was confident he was going to stay, but last night the comments made by his agent, have now made this look doubtful, but we have heard these comments before only for Berba to come out and deny them (someone's lying). I'm hoping that the next development I hear is that Berba has sacked his agent and signs a shiney new deal at the lane. it will be interesting to see if someone actually comes up with the suggested 28m fee. If he is strongly angling for a move then hopefully we will at least see a similar performance against villa as he had against Reading, I obviously don't expect him to score four, but two or three and a couple of assists should do it.

4) Jermain Defoe? We get linked with him every transfer window. I was keen before but now Gabby Agbonlahor has come on so much, I'm not so sure. What is the general feeling amongst you Spurs boys about him?

I think he is a terrific player, but he has found it impossible to break into the side infront of Berba and Keane, one world class and the other has been the highest scorer of 2007. Despite the form of AG, I bet given the chance you guys would still bite our hands off if we offered you Defoe.

5) Ramos, the right choice?

Absolutely!!! this wont be an overnight transformation, but I like the cut of his jib.

6) Do you expect many signings in Jan, where do you need strengthening, the defence I assume with King being so unfortunate with injuries?

We have already brought in Chris Gunter (18) as one for the future, but I really don't see many new faces coming in this window, the squad is a strong one but has played way below its potential. Unlike some above us who are playing to the maximum of theirs ( no names). We need an experienced ball playing CB to play alongside the recovering King, but in truth I am happy to have no new signings unless they are players who will improve the team, we don't want players in who will fill a squad place. I think there will be more players leaving than joining, hopefully we wont lose any of our key man.

7) Do you enjoy visiting Villa Park and what do you think of Villa and Martin O'Neill?

I have never visited villa park so can't comment about the ground. I think Martin O'Neil is an excellent manager who is slowly getting a side together who can challenge for a UEFA place, I think at this stage, you have a squad that may be a little small, I'm hoping that the busy Christmas schedule has one game to many in it and your legs will be gone for tomorrow.

8 ) Prediction? Not sure we'll get another 4-4 which is probably just as well as I'm not sure my heart could take it!

Based on recent results for both sides 4-4 may not be such a ridiculous prediction, but I'm going for a respectable 1-1

With thanks to OxfordSpur from Vital Spurs.

We'll win 2-1, Gabby to shine through and Laursen getting man of the match with Carson doing an excellent job between the posts.
Villa 4 Ever
And no we dont want any of your players unless we can have Keane, Defoe and Berbatov
col8
Got a feeling this game could be a real cracker today!
The Fear
Where did you find this one Fear; a respectful Spurzzzzzzz fan? Good luck to him and all the other respectful Spurzzz fans out there (there has to be more than just him) but I hope you lose horribly against us :oD
Villain Of The North
agreed villan of the north, I think this is the first spurs fan that hasn't made me want to vomit.

A draw would be fair for both clubs! come on you Spurs
klinsi
I wish we could of had this interview at the beginning of the season, the yids would been saying - We must win these games if we are going to make CL over Arsenal.....lol

Fantastic performance all round. We were under the cosh a bit once they made their subs, but once we started playing down the left again we got more of the ball. We need a right sided Ashley Young so we don't get too predictable. Laursen was superb - again - and to think most Spuds wouldn't want him in their team - Who's the bigger team now Spuddies? 2008 is already a great year.
CLVilla
Well done chaps, :(( Worthy winning goal, you should of had a penalty even if Laursen had missed, Dawson the tit had hold of Mellberg''s shirt all game. See you in the cup.....maybe
Scott Spur
We stiil need something up front, the chance Luke missed was ridiculous.
Pking
fair play scott spur for coming on here and graciously accepting defeat. If only laursen was english... he must be the best header of the ball in the league. shame for luke - he is clearly lacking confidence, he just needs a bit of luck. UTV
ric112
Yes, well done Scott Spur. That was very noble and sporting of you. How refreshing...
Nigel-not-Reo
I've had enough of this with Luke Moore. We have this all the time, players who lack confidence but not ability. We need to say sorry chap, time to move on and find someone who has both the ability and the mental toughness as one without the other is as good as having neither. Get shot of Moore and bring in the next man as from where I'm standing (looking at Gabby for example) attitude is worth far more than natural ability and a little ability goes a long way for the one with the right attitude. Heck, isn't that how Brian Clough managed to win 2 European Cups?
Villain Of The North
Mr North I wouldn't be at all surprised if MON already knows what you are saying. Moore or Harewood - What a choice!!!!! We'll soon see what ambition we have.
Gazvilla
Pking, which one?
Carlosio
thanks for the comments earlier boys, we spurs fans arnt all so bad ;-) have to say we were beaten by the better side tonight, not a good game for either side, but I felt dispite us edging the 2nd half you edged it overall. best of luck with the rest of the season.
oxfordspur
Good game for Villa i thought...refreshing to see some honesty from the Spurs guys, very refreshing!
KSarge1
Good three points, was important that we came out with a win, and it was particularly satisfying considering we were not at our best. Looked like missed chances were to cost us, then up pops Martin Laursen. Sweet!
glensider
Spurs are still woeful defensively, but going forward they are up there with the best. As indeed was the case at WHL earlier in the campaign.
