Would You Want Defoe + Poll Results

Vital Villa asked for your man of the match votes for the 2-1 away win against Wigan.

No real surprise that Curtis Davies got the majority with 47% putting all the pub players of the world to shame with an outstanding performance!

Next up was Ashley Young with 15%.

Goalscorer Gabby Agbonlahor got the backing of 9%.

Other results:

Martin Laursen (8%)
Nigel Hokey Cokey (5%)
Scott Carson (5%)
Gareth Barry (4%)
Craig Gardner (sub) (2%)
John Carew (1%)
Luke Moore (sub from 11mins) (1%)
Shaun Maloney (1%)
Wilfred Bouma (1%)
Olof Mellberg (1%)

So good these days with the man of the match votes, lets face it last season when we asked it was always only Gareth Barry who won!

Our latest poll, after press reports have again linked us to him, asks if you would like Spurs striker Jermain Defoe at Villa.

I must admit I've got mixed feelings, everytime I see highlights of him he seems to be scoring but he does spend most of his time on the Spurs bench and their fans seem split on him. Also, would he not be a bit similar to Gabby Agbonlahor?

Spurs fans maybe you'll also comment here and let us know why he doesn't get many games.

I reckon we get a few rogue voters on this front page? Curtis did well very well but was he really better than Laursen overall ? Come on Carson got 5% and he never had anything to do all match how could anyone vote him MOM

I don't personally think Defoe offers us anything that we haven't got already. I think, with all the apparent disarray at Newcastle, we should have a punt on James Milner before they sack Allardyce and get Shearer in.

Good call Jon. He should be top of MON's list. Another young Brit too. Luke and Harewood need to be swapped for someone who is already World Class proven. Defoe is a one trick pony who will shoot on site where ever he is on the pitch and can't run with it unlike Gabby but MON won't want his attitude disrupting things surely.

I like Mackaavfc's suggestion of Dave Kitson, he scores for fun and is a good tough player. I did like the idea of Defoe, now I'm not so sure as Gabby has come on leaps and bounds.

milner & kitson, 2 more young brits, would be a good january, and a right back,

I agree about Defoe I think that Gabby now is arguably as good and in another season will be better. I also think Milner and Kitson are worth a try but I am not sure either Newcastle or Chelski will sell. A right back we do need and I guess is top of the list.

Reading for Kitson
The Fear

Yeah, Kitson does play for Reading, but still i don't think even they will sell, as they seem certain to offload Leroy Lita, leaving them with Kitson and Doyle up front. They have 3 quality strikers there, any one will be a good addition to the squad...if you want a new starter that's going to be able to push big JC or Aggy out then you have to look at either Peter Crouch (in place of JC) or Defoe (where Aggy will fill the space on the right wing). I personally don't see any strikers coming to Villa this winter, as we're one of the top scoring teams in league. We've scored by a distance the most away goals in the prem this season. A striker is not the priority, rather someone that can play a perfect ball to unlock tight defences when we're at home. Someone in the mould of Xabi Alonso, Deco (not these players for obvious reasons but someone of that type). Merson 10 years ago...that's probably more likely than Alonso or Deco.

Put me down as another James Milner fan. If MON could bring him in, then I'd really start fancying our chances of a top eight finish. MOM at Wigan? Curtis. He deserves it. Good performance after a very tricky start to his VP career.

(Spurs fan) Despite the reputation he seems to have picked up as a bit of a diva he's never rocked the boat at spurs and has always said the right things, even though his once bright future has been confined to the bench for a year and a half. People question his abitity and workrate but the guy definatelyy knows where the back of the net is, 18 goals last year (from the bench) and on course for a similar amount this term. With young, carew, barry, gabby and co he'd bang in 15-20 goals a season easy. (Although i want to keep him) if you do buy a striker you could do alot worse and unless you
