'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Interview With A Wigan Fan

1) So what has been going on with Wigan this season?

We flew high after four games then it was lead balloon syndrome after that. The blame was firmly at the feet of Dace Whelan for appointing Chris Hutchings and trying to do it on the cheap. Hutch is a great coach but I think everyone knows he aint no manager

2) What is your opinion on Steve Bruce, were you surprised he was chosen as your new manager?

Steve Bruce should have been appointed in May, it was no surprise to any Wigan supporter that Brucie became our new boss, in fact it was mooted around the JJB that he was coming a month before Hutch was sacked! What Bruce brings is discipline and that is one thing that we have been lacking all season, I feel he is an honest manager and will turn us into a hard working side who will prove difficult to beat, whether that will be enough to keep us up only time will tell

3)Are you expecting more signings in January, if so what areas do you need to strengthen?

We have no left back at the club so that is one area that needs to be sorted, Whelan promised Bruce £15 million to spend and Bruce says he intends to spend it, we need a forward, a creative midfield player, a left back and an experienced central defender

4)I'm coming to the game at the JJB, which pie do you recommend and where should we be drinking before the game!?

Get a Steak Pie…voted best in the Prem, they are the best money can buy. Most away fans use the Red Robin for a pint, it’s a bout 100 yards from the ground and serves food, one of those Wacky Warehouse places.

You could try the Orwell at Wigan Pier for a decent pint 15 mins walk from ground along the canal

5)If you could have one of our players, who would it be and why?

Gareth Barry, he could play midfield or left back comfortably and he is class

6) Who do Villa need to look out for in your team and please don't say A Mule Heskey!?

Just be grateful that Ivanhoe may still be out injured! Denny Landzaat is starting to play well but Antonio Valencia on our right will cause you lots of hairy moments with his pace and class

7) If you could have one player from anywhere, price no object, who would it be?

Ronaldo (Manchester United) for me he is the best in the world at the moment and he would fill our ground every week

8) What is your prediction for the game?

2-1 win for the Latics

With thanks to Worbo from Vital Wigan

Do they still make Uncle Joes mint balls there! have to disagree with Worbo's prediction, has he looked at our away form, best they can hope for is a draw, 2-0 to the villa my prediction, give old broken nose some new year woe! GO ON THE MIGHTY VILLA
eltoro
i wonder what the chelseas fans reaction was to drawing 4-4 with us, i know it felt like a win for me but i can imagine they will be less happy.

In the context of the game and up and until 44 minutes, Villa were by far the best team and by some considerable distance....Chelsea were shell shocked up until that rubbish refereeing decision for the penatly and the sending off!

With a 5,000 plus following on Saturday at the JJB, hopefully the lads will turn on a repeat of the Stamford Bridge showing. One of our better away performances for a long, long time. Showed/proved that we're getting there. Three points at Wigan has to be the objective. Wont be easy, they are starting to pick up some points, but we're more than capable of turning them over. Plus, its about time we beat them!!

Have you beaten us yet in the league? Dont come expecting too much and you wont leave disappointed
worbo
Please worbo, don't even mention wigan in the same breath as the Villa! we are worlds apart m8
eltoro
Worlds apart now but only 2 seasons ago the story was very different, I was at the home game where we got beaten 2-0. That hurt and we need that revenge and tomorrow may well be the backlash!
KSarge1
worbo, you're a confident chappie, but dont get too over-confident. You're up against a quality team, capable of taking you lot to pieces.
