MON - Brilliant, Brilliant Effort

Martin O'Neill told the official site after the 4-4 thriller against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge he thought we'd done enough to win the game.

'We did enough there to win three games. It was an extraordinary effort from the team. We came out and dominated from the very start - at a place where Chelsea haven't lost for quite some time.'

Adding, 'It was just a brilliant, brilliant effort. They've come from behind with just ten men. Some people will point out Chelsea had nine men, but we had ten for most of the second-half. This was not just about the spirit, which was phenomenal, but in terms of ability. We've come here and given a really good account of ourselves. It says a lot that I'm actually disappointed with a draw. I really felt we deserved three points.'

He also says the away fans were once again fantastic.

Meanwhile Chelsea have released a statement on their official site saying they will appeal the Ashley Cole red card on the grounds of 'wrongful dismissal'. How can it be wrongful to send off Cashley Hole?!?!

Ricardo Carvalho has also released a statement saying on Chelsea's official site: 'It was never my intention to hurt Gabriel Agbonlahor with the tackle. I was going for the ball and I don't want people to think that I tried to hurt another player. I didn't see him after the game to apologise but I asked for a message to be passed on to him.'

Hmmm, not the most interesting of statements, in fact a bit of an anti climax, but hey ho!

I'll update later with reaction from Chelsea boss Avram Grant. Either that or I'll go and have a beer and totally forget. Quite exciting the amount of options I have in life.

Avram Grant interview: Click Here

Avram Grant obviously saw a different game to the Villa manager an fans as he said they dominated and have dropped points.

"For the supporters it's an exciting game, for us, we dropped two points. We dominated the game, controlled the game."

Adding "We conceded a goal from a free kick, but then we made it 4-3 at the end of the game - then we conceded a penalty. Of course I'm disappointed."

He also says that Cole should not have been sent off and that it wasn't a pen. The club have already said they'll appeal.

"I don't like to speak, it's the decision of the referee. I saw now it was not a penalty."

I don't like to speak about but but it wasn't a penalty. You've just spoken about it you fool!

i gotta agree that avram grant is a ***** after that interview. we played them off the park and got stitched up by the ref and he can only complain about a penalty that WAS the right decision. is it just me or are we outplaying every single team we play?! its phenomenal we haven't won in 5, we have been so unlucky - but i am still loving it because we are awesome! good times ahead!!

We still need a clinical striker. Once we get our own van nistelburger i think that's when villa will start to really shine on a regular basis.

Another day to be proud to be Villa. I saw the game but didn't see the AG interview. Felt sorry for Maloney but MON had no choice. Loved MON's interview regards decisions against. More than deserved the point. UTV

Can i just say we are one of the top scoring teams in the premiership, are we really in despertae need of a quality stiker?

We're creating tons more chances than the goals we're creating. Perhaps that's a mark of a good team, but surely a great team would have someone who puts more of those chances away than we do. The defence is clearly something that needs shoring up but i think that someone up front who has an eye for goal would see us make that jump to europe.

yeah totally. we need another clinical striker maybe to come off the bench. but who would you drop? carew and agbonlahor are both irreplaceable at the moment. perhaps if we had defoe coming off the bench instead of harewood we would pick up a few more points. on another note, i am looking forward to seeing davies or cahill get a run in the team in place of knight.

I think harewood always looks threatening when he comes on, should give him more of a chnce if the hulk is not playin well or injured

May i just add that Phil Dowd is a ****? No penalty when he gave them that lifeline 4 minutes into first half injury....and that free-kick outside our box for Ballack to score? We out played Chelsea...got decisions against us and still held them...brilliant Villa. I'm off to ask Martin Tyler when last 4 goals were scored against Chelsea at the Bridge

I haven't had much to say about MON of late, but there's one thing for sure, I don't think there's many manegers out there who could take the squad of players he has and instill such belief in them, that they can lose a 2 goal lead away at Chelski and still fight back, a fantastic achievement, and well done to all at Villa for making us proud again.

Has anyone seen the league table, we have scored 3 less goals than arsenal and man utd?? get knight out of the defence and im sure would shore it up a bit. If we had a great defence we'd be top 3 im sure

Well said Reza, ? Ref was against us and then changed when he saw that he made a mistake. He wanted a draw but if there was no first red then we would not have conceded so many, Davies was poor but he needs games and hopefully will come good. Sat in the West stand and struggled to contain my joy (amongst the multi-lingual Chelski fans who did't really know what was going on) when the 8th goal went in.UTV

Heroes to a man. They gave their all, and were fully deserving of the point, in fact, but for the dubious penalty award when Ballack fell over, whose to say we wouldn't have gone on and won?

Maybe, just maybe M'ON has found the forward line that works, gels and frightens other teams to death. Gabi and Young working the flanks and little and large down the middle. Get a right back, put Mellberg back in the middle of defence and then sit back and hang on to your seats. We are a million miles away from being one of the top two or three teams, but I think it is clear to many that there is something special developing at the Villa. Maybe not this season?? Maybe not even next???? But make no mistake we are on the verge of a great era in our clubs great history.

A tremendous performance. Its defenders we need, namely a right back! we dont need strikers at this stage. We are scoreing goals and creating chances. we need defenders!!! Our midfield is mobile, pacy and creative. our strikers get in good possitions and way in with enough goals. just shore up the back and we'll be flying.

Got to say that the very least Villa deserved yesterday was a point. However, whilst I accept that Grant has seen things a bit one sided the comments from Martin O'Neil were unbelievable. It was clear that the decisions were bad for both sides. The free kick that led to your 3rd was dubious to say the least whilst even if you accept it was a penalty the play should'nt have even got that far as there was a clear foul earlier in that phase of the play. Well done though. Have'nt seen a team impose themselves like that at the Bridge for a long time.

MON was frustrated and said those things because ultimately, if there were no poor decisions at all, villa would have gone into the second half with 11 players and a much better chance of winning the game. poor decisions cost villa more points than an outplayed chelsea. holy **** we are getting good - best villa team in ages and so much hope for the future

It was another performance that clearly stated that as a club we are well and truly on the way back. We filed out of The Shed End in positive, upbeat mood, another a fine team performance, a showing where every player involved gave his all. No, we are not there yet, it will take time, yet the club is very definitely heading in the right direction.
