Mellberg Hasn't Signed For Juventus

Olof Mellberg has slammed reports suggesting he has signed a pre-contract with Juventus and says he will see out his contract at Villa.

Mellberg, who can leave on a free in the summer, has also not ruled out staying at Villa.

He said on contract talks that it was decided to put them on hold and that they never got round to talking about the length of the contract or the money. He says he thinks the club and his agent will talk after the busy Christmas period adding:

'Would I like to stay at Villa? That is still an option but I am focusing on my performances and what I've got to do now. It is definitely not true that I have signed a pre-contract with Juventus. My focus is to stay here for this season. Whatever happens, it will be really nice to have a good season. We have a good chance to finish high up the table and maybe qualify for Europe.'

Get him back in the middle with Laursen and all will be just lovely!
murph
and if we qualify for Europe, I'm sure he'd stay (as you say if played in the centre)
The Fear
Think about it this way if we play Mellberg/Laursen then keep Cahill and Knight in reserve...we save ourselves the £9mil+ for Davies! :=D
murph
That's such a coincidence, I haven't signed for Juve either! :D
BodyButter
but murph were gunna have to fork out at least 5-7 million for a decent right back.

Interesting comments from Olof, but I must admit that I expect him to move on come seasons end, and I'm not altogether sure that his departure would be a bad thing.

I'm with murph. Olof and Martin Laursen in the middle. If we spend the Davies money on a right back (or two) we would be better off. Unless Davies plays RB as he did for the Baggies occasionally........?
Madirish
Hasn't the Davies money been spent on Davies? Stands to reason that we can take our time with his development as he is our player and WBA don't care if he's played or not.
Gazvilla
I think he will be leaving, and I think Martin O'Neill realises it to and I think he has known for a while that Olof will be moving on. Why else would he sign two centre backs? I mean everyone of our defenders at the moment can play at CB I believe.
UpTheHolte
He's been a great servant and is a true professional. I would like to see players of his like ending their playing careers at Villa.

Why bring money into the equation? Buy quality, quality and more quality. The rest will take care of itself !!
villacross
If Olaf has been linked with a move to Juventus that should tell the club something about his quality as a player and his standing in European football. On the other hand is it just his agent talking Olaf the Great up?

Just remember Juventus are not the Juve of old!
merlin
Are we becoming the villa of old?
