Davies Gives Villa A Boost

After missing last weeks trip to Sunderland after breaking his nose in a freak training ground accident on Friday, Curtis Davies could potentially be a bench warmer against Manchester City this Saturday.

The broken nose was achieved without complication, and although Davies wasn't expected to be back in the Villa team in time for this weekend, Martin O'Neill is convinced he could now be back in contention.

Speaking on the official site, our manager said:

'He had an accident in training - it was a bit of a collision and he fell down. We're trying to get that fixed this week, but he's feeling much, much better.

'It was a blow because we had no defenders on the bench last Saturday, but we hope to have a choice this Saturday and I'd hope he could be fit for this weekend.'

Interestingly enough, and backing up my thoughts that Cahill has returned to Villa, but will go back to Sheffield United in January with another recall option are Martin's comments as follows:

'If Gary comes through his operation, then he will be available as well.

'I haven't had that choice with defenders since the summer and I wish I could have that all over the pitch.'

Does look increasingly like Cahill was asked to return to cover the period of games Davies could be injured for.

If we sell Cahill I'll be writing Mr.Oneill a letter telling him just what I think of his 5 year plan. If Cahill isn't part of our future I will cry

When is Davies gonna play, this could turn out to be the biggest waste of money in the clubs history the way its going.

we havent spent it yet, surely he is the long term replacement for zat knight and as soon as zat puts a long term run of poor form in curtis should be straight in.

I cant wait to see Curtis Davies introduced into our starting line up. If he realises his potential then we have quite a player on our hands, someone who can be the central figure in our defence for seasons to come.

Glensider, if he is that good, why isn't he playing?
