After rediscovering some kind of form, Petrov has ended up missing the last two games after suffering a hamstring injury during the defeat against Arsenal.

Speaking to the Birmingham Post, Petrov said:

"I did my first session yesterday and it felt all right. I`d been working with the physios for the last week so this was the first chance to test it out.

"But it felt OK and we will see where we are at the end of the week when I`ve had a full week`s training.

"I will train again tomorrow and we will see where we are. It was only a strain and after the scan, the Manchester City game was always my target and that hasn`t changed.

"I think if I can get a full week`s training I will be fit and then we will see what the manager wants to do.

"I`m not bothered about who people think should be in the team - the manager will pick the team and as long as I`m fit and can make myself available, that`s my main concern this week.

"Now we`re around Christmas and the new year, there are a lot of games and I think after this period, we will see where our true position is.

"We`re looking to show our capabilities. We showed before we can win four games in a row but good teams go six to 10 games unbeaten and that`s what we have to look to be doing."

I'd say we need him back for the weekend's game. Others are calling for Maloney to start and I can understand why. However, the Citeh full-backs (Corluka and Garrido) are strong lads, and wee Shaun may not match up in the strength department. If fit Petrov should play and if he can put in a solid performance on the right, similar to the ones he put in at Blose and Blackburn, he will give Garrido a hard time. Garrido loves getting forward and I'm confident Stan could stop him in his tracks....

A fully fit and raring to go Stan Petrov, playing the sort of football he's been playing these past few weeks, is a bonus to us as we enter the hectic and important Christmas period. Get him back in the firing line - we need him.

Stans return to some sort of form, saw us win several games on the bounce. He gets injured and we haven't won in the 3 games since. Coincidence??

We have missed his foot on the ball and creative spark over the past 3 games. He has been linking the play up very well and looks like he is starting to show what he can really do! This guy could be a massive difference over the next 5 months in terms of European qualification.

Good to see the supporters finally starting to get behind Stan the Man. A quality footballer, and someone who has a very important part to play over the next few months as we aim for that top six finish.
