Maloney To Kick On

Maloney has struggled to settle with constant links surrounding a return to Celtic, hardly helped I must admit by his own comments to the press at points!

O'Neill has remained confident throughout the period that Maloney had the skill and temperment to make a success of himself at Villa and it's seemed that when his head has been right he has slowly been introduced more, and looked quite tasty in appearances to boot.

Speaking after the match, O'Neill said:

"It was a blinding free kick and he made a big contribution because he turned the game for us. It was absolutely exquisite but he is capable of doing that.

"He has done it in training this week but you have to do it on the big stage and he produced today. That was magnificent.

"That will give him a big lift in confidence.

"There have been lots of rumours talking about him being homesick and I can understand that.

"He has not really been away from home properly, out of Scotland. But if he settles down, he can do that."

I think it's quite clear that if wee Maloney wants to make a name for himself in the Premiership then it's entirely down to him to continue to prove so.

Even if Celtic do come in for him I think his valuation increased by a bit more after Saturday.

Maloney is a good player and I would like to see him get a few more starts. I would prefer him to Gardner in midfield any day.

Give him a chance MON!

Maybe its time to give him a place in the starting lineup, let him have his head and see what he can do, I wont be surprised if playing a bit part for Villa is getting him down. Give the lad a chance to get in amongst the action for a couple of games.

He's quoted on the BBC he'd like to stay. That's great, I'd take him over Luke any day. MON must try and give Maloney and Harewood a chance in the team (like he did with Petrov).

Truthfully, I really like Maloney coming off the bench. He is a great sparkplug, adding instant energy to the team whenever he comes on. That's exactly what you want out of a substitute.

Why does he have to be a sub? I reckon he should get a couple of starts ajd the chance to show what he can do - either in midfield or alongside Big John as one of 2 supporting strikers.

No, Maloney has never been away from Scotland. Being born in Malaysia doesn't count!!!

glad to hear. i hope to see more of him.

He should get a chance to start, instead of being brought on when we are chasing games. MON does appear to have double standards, he stuck with Petrov throughout his ropey patch (rightfully so) and has given Luke Moore more than of his fair share of starts. Why not give Davies, Maloney and Harewood a few full games in this busy period?

If Stilyan Petrov remains unfit for this weekends visit of Sven's Citeh, then I'd like to see Shaun given the opportunity of a very rare start, ahead of Craig Gardner. He deserves the opportunity. Hopefully he has sorted out his personal woes, and maybe he can now move on and show us exactly why he was so highly rated and well thought of at Parkhead.

Still has to prove to a lot of people that he can do the business over ninety minutes. No complaints on his substitute appearances. As an impact player he can, and has, changed the course of games, but can he sustain it over ninety?
