Dwight Yorke's Affection For Villa

Former Villa hero, turned Villan, Dwight Yorke says he has 'affection' for Villa. Shame he didn't show it on the pitch in his last few games when he all but gave up in order to earn his move to Manchester United then!

Yorke, a Holte end hero for so long, told the Echo:

'I have great affection for Aston Villa and admiration for them and I always look out for their result at the weekend to see how they've done. I was there from 1989-98 which were successful years for the club and it was the platform for me moving on to Manchester United as a result. I have some great friends in that neck of the woods, people who are great Villa fans and I'm sure they'll be hoping I'm not playing. But I think they'll also appreciate how important the game is to me and to Sunderland and they'll accept that I want to do my level best for Sunderland this weekend in beating Villa.'

Wonder if he is taking a video of it? ;-))

Yorke says Sunderland need to be wary of Villa despite our loss v Pompey because we have 'plenty of matchwinners'.

Adding, 'It's my old team, which adds a bit of a twist to it and I want to do well against them and get something from them come Saturday. I want to play against them but then I want to play in every game and I wasn't happy in terms of not playing last week. I don't think the manager expected me to be. But he has to do a job, he has to pick the team and we all have to respect that, even if we're not happy at not playing.'

Used to love the song for Yorkie boy. 'Its up to you, Dwight Yorke, Dwight Yorke' with the whole Holte end roaring it out!

The above word so rudely edited by the swear filter rhymed with mist... oh... another hero for me who obviously has lots of affection would be David Ginola. Villa through and through.
I just don't think in the last 10 years there are many players who genuinely have affection for the club, Here is a starter though.... IAN TAYLOR

I hated seeing him in his Man Ure shirt - However he did give 8 years great service, so maybe time we all realised this again! - When he left us, he won the League, FA & European Cup - If we are all really honest, you could argue he made the right choice. Wembley 96 when he scored the third and we all sang the song - Magic moment Magic Player - lets not forget this

Great player. Truly world class in his prime. You can't really balme a player for wanting to better himself, it was just a shame the way he went about it.

Agree Bob, despite the anger that was around, I still have very fond memories of him, just a shame it got a bit tainted.

Oh Yorkie, Yorkie, Yorkie. Shut that mouth of yours. Forgetting your VP departure, and your subsequent antics whenever you faced us, I recall that you were less than complimentary about us when you moved to our cross city neighbours. Having said that, you watch him grab a vital goal tomorrow.

When are the fans of any club not just our great club, gonna realize that a vast majority of footballers are mercenaries with no conection to the club in which they play... and pay them handsome amounts of cash for the honour to where our great shirt. Many years ago it was an honour to dorn the shirt. But then poeple were far less materialistic. How many football fans show the loyalty to there employers that we demand from our footballers???? NOT MANY I SUSPECT!!!
