See You Luke!

Looks like Villa striker Luke Moore is set to go the way of his brother Stefan and leave.

Villa took up the one year option on the 21 year old striker leaving him tied to Villa until the summer of 2009 but Luke now looks like he wants out.

His agent, Steve Kutner told Sky Sports:

'He rejected the contract because he feels he needs to move on. He needs to be playing first-team football at this stage of his career. He is 21 now and has been very unlucky that he hurt his shoulder last season when he did. Luke has already proved he can do it in the Premier League.'

Not consistently he hasn't?

The agent added, 'They have got him for another season.' Having taken up the option but unless Luke denies his wishes to leave, I would think the club will listen to offers, there is no place for a player not wanting to fight for first team contention. It isn't automatic, especially when you are so young and inexperienced.

We reported last week that Martin O'Neill had already confirmed Luke had turned down an offer and that is why they took up the one year option. 'The decision to extend Luke's contract was our decision. There was talk about a new contract and negotiations went to and fro, but Luke has decided not to take the offer on board.' Adding, 'People here get opportunities to get into the side and they have to take them, I can only pick 16 players. There's a fight on for positions and I'd want that throughout the team. As a general message to everyone in the squad, people have got to fight to get into the side and, if they get into the team, then they have to do well. Luke's played a number of games. But this is what happens - someone comes into the side, does okay, then does not so badly, then maybe doesn't do so cleverly, then doesn't play for a couple of weeks and then questions are asked.'

See you Luke.

"there is no place for a player not wanting to fight for first team contention. It isn't automatic, especially when you are so young and inexperienced." Did his agent say that?!?! Thats amazing! Almost sounds like his agent is having a go at him!

It really is a shame. He has the talent and still has some time. I could tell early on though that he didn't have it in him to fight for a place and when he has had to or felt like the pressure was on he was not able to deliver. Many fans supported him getting into the first team after he came back last year and with a better attuitude he would stick. But unless he is willing to make an adjustment to his ego he will be going the same way his brother did.

Luke has been one of my favourites for a while, its sad to see him go but he doesn't look like he's trying hard enough when he does get a go and MON's right, he has been given enough chances to get in.

Unfortunately MON has his favourites who he won't drop regardless so what choice does Luke have other than to kick up a storm. Before he got his shoulder injury he was quality and in spurts when he came back but he hasn't been starting for the u21s so he appears to be klosing the faith.

As I have said many times, us Villa fans are sometimes loyal to a fault with homegrown players...... he simply doesn't have the correct attitude or work ethic. Southgate is a known admirer and may be able to pay a couple of million for him. My gut feeling is that his career will nosedive. It's obvious that MON has had enough.... I mentioned on a previous thread that it is interesting that he hasn't featured in the 16 since Middlesboro away. I think he was talking to them and someone from Villa caught wind of it. If that is the case then he deserves to be cast into the reserves until he leaves..... Etouffee is right - Stefan Moore cannot even get a start at QPR and they have farmed him out on loan to places like Port Vale. He's scored something like 5 goals in 60+ games in the lower leagues.

I think Luke Moore needs to look for Marlon Harewood for advice. Marlon really has stuck at it ths season and seems determined to make his move a success whereas Luke whenever he has been on the pitch has just sulked around and overall not really done much. Moore is a great player with a great future but he wont get anywhere with this attitude.

Hooray! Best piece of news i have heard for a while. The lad's attitude stinks. Marlon is more worthy of a starting place than that idiot. Just one of those players that really annoys me. Good riddance.

It's most disappointing that the players who should have more villa blood in them than anyone are the ones who are displaying this attitude. They spend all this time training at the villa, they take the jump from youth to senior then do nothing to back it up. They then lose the fight and move on for pittance, what is with that?

Shame we can't find any players with the right attitude and skill level. Marlon will never cut it in the Prem however hard he tries.

It is a shame that Luke is going the same way as Steffan, I feel that he has not grabbed the opportunities given him, his goal ratio is really poor for the first team and this has proved that he does not have what it takes to make it at the highest level. Luke was a better player than his brother and has played nearly 100 games for the villa so he can not say that he has not been given a fair chance here. If he goes he will go to a lower leauge team I fear.

Hardly surprising revelations. The one year contract option taken up by the club indicated that all was far from well, and suggested that the player himself was hardly enthused by the new contract offer, or his situation at the club.

At least we aren't giving them away like last year, should be considered sold in Jan. Then on to the others near their contracts end like a couple of centre backs I can think of.....

Odd isn't it, Luke has far more talent than Gabby but I know who I'd rather have. Gabby lives to play and he lives for the Villa. Couple that attitude with his lightning pace, a desire to learn and improve and a moderate to good level of talent and we have a potential England star on our hands. As the old saying goes, no matter who you are and how good you are, it's always a case of 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.

Gabby has overtaken Luke, he is younger and he has made the most of his opportunity, I am afraid I think Luke will settle in a fizzy pop side, I honestly hoped he may prove to be the sought after 20 goal a season man this year or at least look like getting close to it, but he is a million miles from it, agent touting him around now, no doubt with the clubs blessing. 3m+ and I do not think he will come back to haunt us. Thanks Luke and good luck. (Graham Fenton ring any bells)

Academy stikers down the years with bright futures at 18: Byfield, Stefan Moore, Fenton, Carruthers, Vassell, Olney..... all left Villa and all saw career down-turns.... Yorke (not a true academy product) is the only one who might be able to claim an upturn....

TBH he aint that good. I won't miss him, except for when we play Middlesboro away. I bet they buy him, just to stop him scoring against them.

Believe it or not lads Moore last season and the season before was our best striker shots to goals ratio, He has the talent and last year and the season before he was a better striker than Gabby, but he has been frozen out. When he didnt come on against MiddlesVilla and Maloney came on instead i told my mate macca he'll be off, Because he scores most of his goals coming off the bench and he scored 6 goals past middlesVilla in the last 4 games so i couldn't believe it.

Shots-to-goals ratio? That's a bit of a stretch my friend. How about doing the work to get yourself into good shooting positions? If shots-to-goals ratio is the best argument that you can produce to judge a forward then times are hard. Six goals against Boro does not make anyone a good forward. "The season before he was a better striker than Gabby." Yes, and now Gabby has overtaken him like Nigel Mansell passing the Milk Float mate!

I agree with villa 4 ever. He was our best striker, although its true gabby has got much better, I still think he just needs a kick up the arse and he'll be firing again tho. Reckon we should keep him

i was a big luke fan, but a bloke I know who used to work down the villa who told me some stuff about Lukes "attitude" that made me think a lot less of him. Lets just say he likes the lifestyle... Think maybe he coud be great if he shifted his weight but let some other manager deal with him until then. Am convinced there will be enough young strikers who would jump at the chance to work with MON.

He was basically out for a whole season last season, but lets not forget when he played the first 11 or so games, we was magical when he was on the left and he was scoring goals and setting them up from the left as well, once he went out and Laursen we started losing big style, not last season the season before he played less minutes on the field than Baros and still became joint scorer with 9 goals, when times were hard and we didn't have no one to set the goals up....Also MON has came out today saying Moore has a future at Villa and that he can run out his contract until 2009 and if he has proven himself then he and along with anyone else will be offered a new contract, I think it's his Agent thats stirring it all, But i do believe he has deserved more chances in the team than he has been given, Maloney has came on too many times and he is off to Celtic anyway in Jan. I just hope MON gives him a chance still, i mean he is still scoring for the reserves when played and has scored 2 out of 8... aint that bad and deserves some sub matches.

I think Luke should take a step back and look at the larger picture.Personally I think he has not got the games playing off the big man to get his full attacking game going. When he has played he has held the ball up excellently. But Gabby played wide right all last year and proved himself.Luke was unlucky with injuries, and with a bit of luck would have scored more goals this season(and he must admit himself he missed a couple of beauties!)He should listen to MON and work to prove himself.Would this sort of attitude work at any other club? Under Fergie,Wenger, Rafa, Big Sam or Hughes? He should prove his worth to the team, the manager, the club and the fans and work his way back to contention. We are a club going places, and he is one of Luke lets stop spitting the dummy out and you can prove yourself with us in Europe.
