Magnificent Martin O'Neill

Martin Laursen’s solid performances for Aston Villa have resulted in him being named in the Actim Index team of the week, the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League.

The defender’s 31 points, which came from the two matches against Blackburn and Arsenal, increased his season’s tally to 253 points and puts him as the highest ranked defender in the index and the 7th highest ranked player overall.

Helped by playing one game more than anyone else, 4 other Villains (Scott Carson, Zat Knight, Ashley Young and John Carew) were also included in the Team of the Week.

Gabriel Agbonlahor still remains as Villa’s top ranked player in the index in 3rd place overall with 271 points.

Analysis of all Premier League games is taking place throughout the season and the players in the Actim Index Team of the Week are:

Scott Carson, Aston Villa, Overall 38th
Sami Hypia, Liverpool, Overall 79th
Martin Laursen, Aston Villa, Overall 7th
Zat Knight, Aston Villa, Overall 20th

Paul McShane, Sunderland, Overall 111th
David Bentley, Blackburn Rovers, Overall 12th
Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United, Overall 11th
Steven Gerrard, Liverpool, Overall 5th
Sebastian Larsson, Birmingham City, Overall 95th
Ashley Young, Aston Villa, Overall 10th
John Carew, Aston Villa, Overall 202nd

The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player’s contribution be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards.

No one deserves the plaudits more than Laursen for coming back as he has and doing so well so consistently. Imagine how he would be rated at Villa had he not had his injuries. Gabby is better than many fans rate, his consistency always underated as he performs even when stuck out on the wing, but does what he does naturally score goals, when played in the right position. Knights rating epitomises his improvement since the Utd game, shows how his character has come to the fore, he's increased his level of concentration a notch and made the defence far more secure, here's to him keeping it up. Well done to all oif them long may it continue

He has been immense this season no other word for it. I had my doubts he'd be able to play every week but he's proving me and a lot of others wrong.

hes been fantastic long may he continue at villa park

Sign him up quickly!!
Jon.H
I'm positive he will sign plus it would be a bit of a disonour to the club after sticking by him for so long. Can't fault his workrate ths season I'd like to see him stick out his career here.

Don't know if Mr Fear often looks on here but the rivals network may be about to outsrip Vital! What do we do?
Matt_Us
The only team with 3 players in the top 10. When was the last time everyone else looked to us to lead the way? And 2 of them are young English talent as well. I say great work from the Manager, Coaches and Players. Just keep it up till the end of the season.

Carew 202nd!!! after that battering display against the Arse he should be atleast in the top 100! so does this mean Carew is the premier leagues 202nd best player? *********!
*Holte*End*Star*
not with you Matt_Us. OUtsrip us?!
The Fear
Not really holte*end*star, remember he has been injured a fair bit this season and has only just started scoring, so his stats would be low when you look at the whole season.
The Fear
Good to see our lads are getting a mention now in all quarters. Definitely a sign of the times. The clubs profile has moved up a couple of notches since the season kicked off, and people outside of the club are starting to realise that we have some true quality within our ranks.
