'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Big John Carew 'Immense'

Martin O'Neill has waxed lyrical about striker John Carew who is finally looking like the player his reputation suggests he is. After the Arsenal game O'Neill said of the Norweigan man mountain,

'Carew was immense. He has that capability. To play like that every week is difficult. It is difficult for Emmanuel Adebayor, it is difficult for Wayne Rooney or any class player. But he caused two world-class centrehalfs - Kolo Toure and William Gallas - real problems. He played like that when he arrived in January but it was his best performance for us because of the players he was up against.'

Adding, in the Birmingham Mail that the striker has now set his bar high: 'That's what he should be measuring himself against. That's what all our players should be measuring themselves against - the Arsenals and Manchester Uniteds. You might fall short. We have a long way to go. But we are in there competing, which at this minute in terms of our development is encouraging.'

Be interesting to see who we bring in during the January transfer window, another top class striker and we'll be laughing all the way into Europe surely?

Delighted to see he's finally getting the well deserved recognition and plaudits that are flooding his way. The guy has been an important player for us since day one, appreciated and highly rated by the experts, yet surprisingly falling foul to criticism from amongst Villa supporters, something I could never quite get my head around. The perfect foil for our more pacier starlets, Big John has been a superb signing by the boss man. Certainly the best target man I have witnessed here at Brummagem B6, since the heady days of a certain Peter Withe. Take a bow JC. I do believe that your talents are finally being fully recognised and appreciated by the Villa Park faithful.

Hear, hear Glensider. Words of wisdom.

Well said Glensider. That was the best centre forward play I have seen at VP for years. It would be interesting to see what Maloney could do if given a couple of games alongside the big man in that sort of mood.

He is starting to get the recognition because he is starting to score goals, and looked like he was going to score against Arsenal when he smashed it against the post. He has been doing an excellent by holding the ball and letting the strikers get around them to play them through, but he really needs to be a 10+ goal scorer as well.
Villa 4 Ever
Even I'll admit he is starting to come good in the last 3 games and I am not his biggest fan. Think his close control still lets him down tho.

I know theres a big cry for the return of Peter Crouch to B6, but this guy offers us so much more than Crouch ever could. Its all opinion of course, but Big JC is a tremendous asset to us, a player we need to build a quality strike force around.
