O'Neill rules England out (AUDIO)

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill faced the big question on everyone's lips at his pre-match media briefing ahead of the trip to Middlesbrough - Will he become the new England boss? Despite being the early favourite with the bookies and having already once spoken to the FA about the role before Steve McClaren was appointed, he says his situation is different now and remains fully committed to progressing with the West Midlands club.

Rumours surfaced after Villa owner Randy Lerner admitted in October that he would not stand in O'Neill's way should he want to take over the national side.

Was he really seriously ever in line for it,the FA obviously see McClown as the better coach coz MON never got offered the job 18 months ago.We need a manager with a proven record of success at the very highest level, not CV"s littered with tin pot trophys from tin pot leagues.....ie,Cappello,Jose,Wenger,Lippi.Scholari etc etc

chalky76, you're fast becoming the front page bore. Why not go on the forum and display your inane ramblings on the 'Open terrace' page, the appropriate place for banter and constructive discussion between rival supporters?

Cappello or Harry Redknap? hmmmm tough one.

Glad that he's come out now to end speculation before an important days footie!

Hear! Hear! Deano. The 'feelgood' factor is truly alive and well at VP right now.
