Peter Crouch Defenders Scott Carson

Liverpool and England striker Peter Crouch has come out in defence of keeper Scott Carson.

Crouch was one of the only players who came out of the game v Croatia with any credit at all said on the Liverpool official site:

'Scott is a fantastic keeper and also a young keeper and, although he will be disappointed with Wednesday, I've trained and played with him every day and I know just how good he is. I am sure he will be an England number one in a few years to come. Hopefully people don't get on his back too much. I wouldn't wish fans turning on him. He is a great lad and a fantastic keeper.'

Adding, 'It wasn't just him. Over the course of the qualifying campaign there have been mistakes and we have to look at ourselves as a team as a whole.'

He also disagrees with those saying it was a risk to throw a keeper with so little experience into such a crucial match.

Sad that not one England player spoke to Carson, or appeared to, when he let the opening goal in. A quick word in his ear from the captain even may have been very welcome to a guy who was no doubt wishing that Wembley would open up and swallow him.

On the subject of Crouch for a minute, while not my idea of an England international centre-forward, must say that I thought he took his goal well.
