Crouch Best Article In World Tribute

Darn it, I've just noticed one article I did yesterday hasn't shown up. Bet I wrote it then deleted it. Yup, I am that stupid! Much like Tenacious D who wrote the best song in the world and then forgot it, I reckon it was the best article in the world ever!!! Well, maybe not.

I was merely speculating on the rumours that Villa will be bidding 20million in the January transfer window to buy Scott Carson permanently and to attract England and former Villa striker Peter Crouch back to Villa Park.

The figure mentioned is in excess of 10million and the reports I read had no quotes or real substance, especially as Crouch has said he is happy at Liverpool and not looking to move. The link might make sense as Martin O'Neill is certainly trying to build a strong English back bone to the side but should a player ever return to a former club?

His scoring record for England is certainly impressive, so what do you think?

Our latest poll asks the very question, which is a hell of a coincidence!!

I'd take him back in a second. He's funny looking for sure but he seems a great bloke and he's a deceptively skilfull player. All the 'pool fans i know want him to play all the time, dunno why Rafa leaves him out. Sign him up!!

Would be a great signing and a great sign of intent about where we want to be going. Make it happen!

No. It would only start to make sense if both Harewood and Carew left the club. Anelka would be a better option and surely wants to leave Bolton more than Crouch wants to leave Anfield.

Saurat - man u are rumoured to be interested in anelka. We can't compete.

And besides - harewood should leave the club and carew is injured too often. Sign crouch up.

Agreed. Harewood has no place here and I'm sure patience with Carew is all but expired. Anelka not only thinks he is bigger than clubs, he probably thinks he is bigger than God! Crouch all the way.

Have to say I think Anelka would be quality for Villa. He is always linked with other clubs but Bolton got him. Fair enough, straight choice he'd go to Utd but would be nice to see us try. He might be sulky but he is also very strong, skillful and one of those rare players who can chang the course of a game on their own, much like old Magic Merse used to. He'd fit in well now with the way the speedy players try to get the ball forward and with the right service from Young, Barry etc, he'd have a field day.

I,ve read Man City also after Crouch with a 140 million summer tranfer kitty! How can anyone compete other than by having even more money. The sport of football needs a revolution. If we could sign him it would be great, but I am afraid we will be easily outbid and out-manouvred.

Sorry but I don't think Crouch is the kind of player that would make us that much better. I feel the kind of money they would want for him would be better spent eleswhere. With our scouting system, I'm sure there must be a striker somewhere in the world that would significantly improve us!

i think Derryvillan has it bang on re: harewood, carew and anelka. Carew does ok, but for such a big lad he is awful in the air and when ever he is in the team i think we are worse off just because we change our whole style of play. he slows all our play down. Crouch is probably similar to crouch heading at goal but he is so much more creative, his touch is subline with his back to goal and he has great vision and just generally moves the ball quicker than carew.

No, no, no. Why? The guy isn't a consistent goalscorer, and thats what we need. It would be a huge mistake, for both parties. He's not in Carew's league.

actually glensider he's a better scorer than you think - compare his scoring record to the number of starts he makes, don't include the subs appearances. when he starts he scores. Plus whenever he plays liverpool look far better going forward. I think he's better than Carew on Carew's current form.

Glensider, Crouch has a 1 in 2 average at most clubs he's been at and a better than 1 in 2 for England! How is that not a consistant goalscorer?!?

Just imagine the partnership of Crouchy and Gabby, we'd make top4. I'd be so happy if we got Crouch back.

If Crouch returned to Villa Park would there be space on the team bus for both him and Carew?

Imagine if we played both of them up front together - it would strike fear into the heart of most defenders! They'd tower over most Centre Backs.

If they had a fight my money would be on Carew though - he's about twice the weight of Crouch!

Why is there so much worry if Carew would fit in? He may have played CL football in the past, but he has shown little to show he will ever impress in the Premier League.

Well I wont argue guys, we've all got opinions, but I firmly believe that Crouch would not improve us in any way. He didn't impress me one jot last time around at VP, and from what I've ever seen of him since, I havent altered my opinion of him. If we are going to replace JC, then hopefully we should set our sights considerably higher than the likes of Crouch.
