Gabby Scores + England Debuts

Gabby Agbonlahor scored in the 40th-minute in the 2-0 win for the European U21 Championship qualifying game against Bulgaria.

Stuart Pearce said: 'Gabby was a little bit quiet for us in the first half but in the second half he played much better. He's got that knack of scoring a goal. He's doing it for Villa now on a consistent basis in the Premier League and proved that he's a handful and showed that again. With players like him around, you have the potential to get your nose in front when you least deserve it and that is a great skill to have in your team.'

Unfortunately later in the game the 21-year-old striker limped off injured following a late challenge and is a doubt for the game v Portugal next Tuesday.

Pearce says the medical staff are looking after him well adding, 'I spoke to him just now and he said it's settled down so we hope he'll be okay for both club and country.'

Agbonlahor said: 'I took a knock on my cartilage but I don't think it's too bad, so I'll have to see what it's like today. I don't know whether I'll miss Tuesday's game. Until it settles down I can't really say much more. It's hurting quite a bit at the moment. I don't know whether I'll need a scan. Hopefully I'll find out today.'

Ashley Young and Scott Carson both earnt their first senior caps in the boring 1-0 win against Austria. Both Young and Gareth Barry came on as subs in the second half.

Lets hope that Barry is back in the starting line up on Wednesday v Croatia (and that the game still matters!) and that Scott Carson keeps his place ahead of Paul Robinson.

Former and if you believe the papers future Villa striker Peter Crouch scored the winner.

Would prefer Barry and Carson not to start on Wednesday if Israel dont win today. They wont deserve the harsh reception from the fans.

Thought Barry did very well in the 2nd half of the game...and Young looked pretty lively, with Crouchy spurning a glorious chance to have given the lad his first England assist. Carson looked very comfortable, but to be fair was hardly tested. Happy days. It's 2am here in Singapore and i'm upi watching the Sweaties, waiting for the Israel v Russia game to start.....come on Israel, so us a favour!!!

Good goalscoring performance from Gabby, and a solid display from Craig Gardner too. The highlight of the night though has to be seeing three Villans on the pitch together second half, wearing the England shirts with pride, in a full international. Another indication that this grand old club of ours is moving forward again. Finally may I add, Well Done Israel - British passports await you all, plus a house each in Kensington.

Nice to see Israel putting the effort in even though their chance to qualify had passed. Gus Hudding heading to CSKA if England beat Croatia? Great to see Villa playing a part on the International stage again, I suppose this has nothing to do with MON being the Villa manager.

With the injuries to strikers it might be an idea to push Lampard or Gerrard upfront alongside crouch and get Barry back in the middle.

Didint manage to see the England game, but I hear Ashley did us and himself proud?

He certainly was the pick of the second half substitutes DeanoVilla. Wonder how many Villans will start the Croatia game on Wednesday evening? It will be interesting to see.
