Gabby Agbonlahor scored in the 40th-minute in the 2-0 win for the European U21 Championship qualifying game against Bulgaria.
Stuart Pearce said: 'Gabby was a little bit quiet for us in the first half but in the second half he played much better. He's got that knack of scoring a goal. He's doing it for Villa now on a consistent basis in the Premier League and proved that he's a handful and showed that again. With players like him around, you have the potential to get your nose in front when you least deserve it and that is a great skill to have in your team.'
Unfortunately later in the game the 21-year-old striker limped off injured following a late challenge and is a doubt for the game v Portugal next Tuesday.
Pearce says the medical staff are looking after him well adding, 'I spoke to him just now and he said it's settled down so we hope he'll be okay for both club and country.'
Agbonlahor said: 'I took a knock on my cartilage but I don't think it's too bad, so I'll have to see what it's like today. I don't know whether I'll miss Tuesday's game. Until it settles down I can't really say much more. It's hurting quite a bit at the moment. I don't know whether I'll need a scan. Hopefully I'll find out today.'
Ashley Young and Scott Carson both earnt their first senior caps in the boring 1-0 win against Austria. Both Young and Gareth Barry came on as subs in the second half.
Lets hope that Barry is back in the starting line up on Wednesday v Croatia (and that the game still matters!) and that Scott Carson keeps his place ahead of Paul Robinson.
Former and if you believe the papers future Villa striker Peter Crouch scored the winner.
