Villa Defender Uncertain Of Future

Oh for the love of God, sign him up!

Martin Laursen is quoted in the Daily Mail today saying he isn't certain on his Villa future as his contract runs out next summer, so the Denmark international defender could walk away for nothing on a Bosman along with fellow defender Olof Mellberg and goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen. That is a few cool million pounds worth of talent who could go for nothing. :o(

Laursen says he hasn't spoken to Martin O'Neill about a new deal yet adding:

'I don't want to ask the manager about anything. He or the club can come to me if they are interested in offering me something to try to make me stay. I'm quite happy with the way things are going at Villa, but if they choose not to bother, I'll look elsewhere.'

'For some reason, there has been no mention of what happens at the end of the season. January is not far off now and though I will be as focused as ever in games, my agent is looking at the situation. It is getting late and we have to make plans in case Villa don't come up with something.'

SIGN HIM UP NOW! I cant figure it out, weve got Laursen, Mellberg, Moore, Bouma and Sorenson all coming to the end of their contracts, and we're not showing any desire to keep them even though they are nearly all key players, if we let them go we will suffer...and i think it will be then that questions should be raised over MON.

I remember during the last transfer window when all was quiet for the 3 months MON saying getting Laursen, Mellberg and a few others to stay at the Club was a priority. Sounds like it was a smoke screen to cover up the inactivity and now it seems one of our match winners is getting uneasy... How many games have we lost with Laursen playing against games without him?

Never mind Bobo Balde is aavilable to partner the imperious Zat next season !!!!! In all seriousness Isn't MON in the US with Randy at the moment, surely this will be sorted out, mind you I thought the same regarding Mellberg but he is looking increasingly out of the plans. It could of course be agent putting on the pressure.

This is a worrying situation, and I've posted my thoughts on the forum following an interesting debate with Wurzel. Can only echo the comments of fellow Vital Villans above, Just what is going on, and why the delay? Not only for Martin Laursen, but for Luke Moore and Olof Mellberg also.

Maybe MON feels we managed without a right back so lets try losing players in a few more positions Joke. I doubt very much this situation with Laursen will remain unresolved for long, players of his quality dont come round every day BUT if his wage demands are over the top the club has every reason to remind Martin of the two seasons he played very little because of Injury.

It needs to be sorted asap - no excuses. If we lose Laursen we'll be taking a massive step back, Clubs push on off the back of a solid defence (look at Portsmouth as the best example) - and we are a different side when this guy plays. I am bemused at the best of times by how we've handled the current contract negotiations, and what MON's plans are for our defence given some of the summer's purchases, but really - Laursen's name should be #1 on the teamsheet, no question. Sort it MON.

He is a great player. His return from long term injury has been like a world class defensive signing. Sign him up now!!

Why the hell do we keep leaving contracts till the last minute? It's following the same pattern as the signings!

This guy is God mark 2. Don't shuffle too long on signing him up, or Melly either for that matter.
