Gabby Agbonlahor Is Gabby Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor Is Gabby Agbonlahor

I wish everyone would stop putting pressure on young Gabby Agbonlahor! Last week we had Martin O'Neill saying that the Villa striker was like Stan Collymore at his best, now Zat Knight is quoted on the official site saying he is turning into our very own version of Didier Drogba or Wayne Rooney.

Come on, calm down and give the lad space to be himself!

The former Fulham defender said: 'As a centre-half, you look at him and realise he can make something from nothing and that's a really impressive trait. Rio Ferdinand and John Terry know that if they can keep the strikers quiet at their end, then the likes of Wayne Rooney and Didier Drogba will do the damage at the other end. That's what we're starting to feel with Gabby.'

Explaining, 'He's a huge threat. Defenders are always on the back foot against him. He's an outlet because when we're under pressure we can just put the ball into the channels and we know Gabby will be there chasing it down.'

He also says with the speed Gabby possesses, he is happy that they are now on the same side.

Gabby has 5 Premiership goals so far this season, our next highest scorer is Martin Laursen with 3. That leaves a clutch of players on 1 each.

Top scorers in the Prem so far this season:

Benjani Portsmouth 8
Adebayor Arsenal 7
Anelka Bolton 6
Fabregas Arsenal 6
Keane Tottenham 6
Ronaldo Man Utd 6
Agbonlahor Aston Villa 5
Drogba Chelsea 5
Kapo Birmingham 5
McCarthy Blackburn 5
Torres Liverpool 5
Van Persie Arsenal 5

I have a plan, lets get Anelka to play alongside Gabby! Europe here we come!!!!!

15 league goals would be nice, and certainly achieveable. Doing very well this season, I did question whether he could improve on last season as he didnt show to have it in the head or to be great technically, but he is improving and has all the confidence in the world. fair play to him.

I'll take the pressure off him by saying I think he knows himself that whatever the press says he still has a lot to learn and is far from the finished article. Please do not make him the victim of over-hype, not helped by his clearance and goal against them. Am I on my own, but before those 2 incidents I thought although often involved in the game Gabby, along with Reo, was relatively one of Villa's less effective performers. Blues were undoubtedly terrified by the pace of both Young and Gabby, but where as Ashley was cutting in and delivering, too often Gabby did not have close enough control and was easy to take the ball off. He is too loose with it and he can't rely on his pace if he pushes past one defender to find someone else there when he shows too much of the ball. Please don't get me wrong I like him, I think he is good, and is Villa through and through. He is not the finished article though and he knows it himself and says the right thing about wanting to learn and improve. I wish Gabby every success times a million - but keep your feet on the ground and don't listen to the hype. In his late twenties it would be great to say that when he has got better and better and he is still banging the goals in he really will have made it.. This season - Laursson looks like Villa's most complete finished article to me.

Gabby's improving in leaps and bounds, but still has a lot to learn and improve upon. Comparing him to those who have come/gone before is unfair on him, and unrealistic.

Good point stennyvilla and I agree wholeheartedly. Just read that Arsenal are supposed to be preparing a £15m bid for him. My first thought was that I can't judge a player because I don't see an accomplished player there - yet. I think you have summed it up well and if gabby is worth that much, what about Ashley - ok doesn't score as many goals but is improving rapidly too.

Ashley Young has the potential to make it to the very top. And to be fair Gabby is not too far behind him right now. Sadly Luke Moore seems to be going backwards.
