Petrov Wins Player Of Derby Vote

Vital Villa asked for your player of the match votes following the Blues v Villa derby.

Blimey, 37% said Stiliyan Petrov. I thought he was good, but not THAT good?!!

Liam Ridgewell was next with 20% Anyone else got the text doing the rounds saying 'Urgent Message: Agent Ridgewell, return home, mission accomplished!'

Next up was scorer of the winner Gabby Agbonlahor (thank you so much Gabby, you've saved our forums from months of doom and gloom, God bless ya!)

Ashley Young, my player of the match, got 14% of the votes.

That left:

Scott Carson (6%)
Gareth Barry (4%)
Olof Mellberg (1%)
Martin Laursen (1%)
Wilfred Bouma (0%)
Zat Knight (0%)
John Carew (0%)
Nigel Hokey-Cokey (0%)
Luke Moore (0%)

Our latest poll asks what Thomas Sorensen should do after he has revealed he is looking at his options. He told Ritzau 'In January, I can talk about where my future will be, but of course I have started to consider the options. I am a footballer and of course I want to play regularly soon. It's a bit depressing with just training and the reserves.'

Think Sorensen is decent enough, not as commanding as he could be but has done a good job but needs to move on now for the sake of his own career, he needs 1st team football and is behind Carson and Taylor.

I'm sorry but that is aload of bully. Petrov can't pass he can't hold onto the ball and his shooting is truly woeful.

Rather Petrov won it than a negative vote for a player who isn't ours. Also think Tommy is streets ahead of Taylor who never looks safe to me.

The Tommy vote also assumes that Carson is staying. What if the loan is not changed to a buy - and is there really 8m difference in value between them? Not sure that Carson has really proved himself yet, the current defence are stopping most attacks before they reach goal - in Tommy's day that didn't happen so often, so how can we judge?

I THINK PEOPLE HAVE GOT MISTY EYED ABOUT MON's FIRST SIGNING. NO WAY WAS HE MOTM. DID HE PLAY BETTER THAN YOUNG OR GABY? NO OFF COURSE NOT.

A lot of "black" work have been done by Petrov in derby match, winning the balls from opposition, trying to create something, in the first half, there was exact situation, Petrov was in the box, received pass, had an opportunity to shoot, tried a trough pass to gabby for a simple tap easy goal instead, ok it was wasted, but it was lightning of creativity. In the second half, in the same situation, Petrov's shot was blocked by defense (possible goal). For me, Petrov was the MOTM. Young was the second MOTM :)

Petrov has had three decent games on the bounce. Let's give him a chance. Now he has a little confidence he can perhaps be a shade more creative. Depends if MON wants him to get past the forwards, or sit deep as he does for Bulgaria. I feel a little sorry for Sorenson. Decent keeper, quite possibily in the top ten in the Premiership BUT so far Carson has looked better, albeit he has had the benefit of playing when Laursen is fully fit. Prefer Tommy to Taylor, but you can understand that at Sorenson's age reserve team football is no good for him. Let's try to sell him in January though to get some cash back. Man City a distinct possibility?

I think Petrov has improved, he got some tough tackles in v Blues, something he was shying away from. He doesn't look that confident on the ball still but there were glimpses with some very good (and more importantly forward) passes. Funny old game, I'd have had him behind Young, Gabby, Barry and Carson in the vote, but then, thats football for you!!!!

Agree krfeskivilla, might as well try to get something for him, shame to see him leave on a free, although he could sit on his contract and make a bomb in the summer I guess!

Still Skeggy - You are wrong Petrov was the best performer throughout the 90 minutes at the Sty. He was in the game from start to finish, worked his nuts off, created chances and had a couple of oportunities along with the killer ball for Liam to convert. Ash and Gabi went missing a little Gabi in the 1st half and Ash definately went missing for about half an hour after the break.

I'm 100% in agreement with the Stan Petrov vote. A well deserved accolade. He's in a nice vein of form right now, long may it continue.

Maybe Stan ahould have got the most improved player then but he can still do better surely. The Hokey Cokester has been pushed out to the wing because he is doing a better job than him in the middle though. If we had another consistent centre forward then Gabby on the wing and Nige on the bench as some games (depending on the oppositions formation ) he goes missing.

Big fan of Stan and I hope he keeps up the progress. It seems that a freer role is exactly what he needed. Now, time for some of those cracking goals he scored North of the Border! UTV

Sorensen isn't a bad keeper but he's not gonna get a game this season and would be a good No.1 for one of the lower prem teams.

I voted for Gabby, saved a goal and scored one, you can't ask for more than that! I'm thought Petrov had a steady game, not MOTM but a big improvement on recent performances.

on the Tommy part of the story, i think he should move on to for his own career. Tommy beleives he should be No1 but i can't see Carson loosing the jersey. Taylor is happy being No2 and it's always difficult to find keepers happy to keep the bench warm. in an ideal world Tommy and Carson would fight it out but it aint going to happen.

Tommy made too many mistakes and is now paying the price. Carson has been very steady and will only get better with regular games. Tommy got sloppy,Taylor is a capable no2 in the same vain as Harper at Newcastle. Stan was just motm only just in front of Gabby and Steve Bennett.

I didn't think that Petrov had that good a game. Agbonlahor should have won it for his goal line clearance and goal in the last few minutes. With Carew only half fit he did most of the donkey work upfront on his own.

Out of Tommy and Stuart, I'd choose the former every time. He's by far the better keeper. trouble is, he wont stay at VP as a number two.
