Villa Striker In Actim Top 10

Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor’s goalscoring heroics in the derby win over Birmingham City lifted him into the top 10 of the Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League.

The Birmingham-born 21-year-old produced a vital goalline clearance at St Andrews to deny former Villa defender Liam Ridgewell before popping up at the other end to head home the decider with three minutes left.

Agbonlahor’s display earned him 30 points - his best away score of the season - and moved him up four places to 10th in the Index with 204 points. He was also named in the Actim team of the week.

He is level on points with team-mate Martin Laursen, the Denmark defender staying in ninth place. Ashley Young (18th), Zat Knight (33rd) and Gareth Barry (37th) are also in the top 50.

Analysis of all Premiership games is taking place throughout the season and the players in the Actim Index Team of the Week are:

Jose Reina, Liverpool
Glen Johnson, Portsmouth
Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United
Danny Higginbotham, Sunderland
Fabio Aurelio, Liverpool
Jermaine Jenas, Tottenham Hotspur
Lee Bowyer, West Ham
Aaron Lennon, Spurs
Mathieu Flamini, Arsenal
Carlton Cole, West Ham
Gabriel Agbonlahor, Aston Villa

The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player’s contribution be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards.

Well done gabby
BlindJak
Wonder what Gabby is worth in todays transfer market? When you consider we paid £9million for Young based on potential, surely both Gabby and Young must now be valued at £12mill + ?
DeanoVilla
Carlton Cole?!
johnnyuk
Carlton Cole in the same team takes the edge off it a bit - couldn't you have cut that name out?
Gordonsleftboot
He's still League One standard at best.
St Andrews Blue
St andrews - don't make me laugh. Gabbi has scored against some of the best defences in the premier league - man u, liverpool, Chelsea etc. Who has Cameron Jerome scored against? Derby? woo-hoo!!!
The Usual Suspect
Methinks St ANdrews blue is a little bitter about being spanked at his own manor!
The Usual Suspect
But these stats are a farce. Your one top-six level player, Gareth Barry, ranked as the fifth best Villa player? That's ludicrous.
St Andrews Blue
One top six level player???? Not seen Martin Laursen, Scott Carson, Ashley Young or Gabby play before then? Oh hang on - Yes you have - last Sunday at your gaff. What was the score again?
melski
Where are the blues players in the Actim index then?
The Usual Suspect
Scott Carson: Not one of the top-six goalkeepers in the league, and a long way off.

Ashley Young: Would be good for the mid-table area.

Martin Laursen: Not rated by anyone outside of Villa Park, next injury will end his career.

Gabby: Glorified sprinter who should have stuck to athletics. Has as much of a football brain as an American loan-shark. Oh, hang on...
St Andrews Blue
St Andrews Blue - Young and Carson are in the England squad. Laursen, Petrov, Sorensen and Mellberg are international regulars. You really are displaying your complete ignorance of football. You have a championship side and considering that you have been doing well, but people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I can't name one player of yours we would even have on our bench. Maybe Forsell, if he was free from injury long enough to complete a training session.
The Usual Suspect
ANd anyway - where's sunday's match report on vital blues???
The Usual Suspect
According to your "five year plan" you will be in the Champions League every year soon. Apart from Barry, do you have any player who could manage to perform at that level? I seriously doubt it.
St Andrews Blue
Does make a good change for Villa fans to be cheering about something that happened a few days ago rather than a quarter of a century ago. though :-D
Jasper's Parrot
Can I just point out, the table is wrong. Laursen is 9th. Young is 18th. Check this out - http://www.pa-sport.com/en/actim/actim-index-premier.html
CLVilla
Sorry - my mistake - team of the week, not table - duhhhh. Mind you , Laursen still looking good!!!
CLVilla
it came from the pa so it should be right! They've a few tables + the top defenders list, strikers etc.
The Fear
It's way off. Barry is 47th not 37th, for example.
NeilBaker
Ah, team of the week. Right.
NeilBaker
He's definitely got a very good future ahead of him and with Ashley Young as well you have two very young exciting players.
dazza71
Hey, jaspersparrott, what was your last trophy called? Play-off egg cup or something?
Madirish
St Andrews Blue is top of my Actim Index for being bitter and twisted, and speaking nonsense. Mind you, it would be a close run thing amongst supporters of our yo-yo club rivals from across the way. Aint Jasper's Parrot hilarious eh? Never won nowt, never will, yet still he chirps up highlighting his lots shortcomings. Cant wait until April, when we put them down again.
glensider
St Andrews blue.. do you have any players that can play well at premiership level? Cause i seriously doubt that.
The Usual Suspect
I didn't know birmingham city fans had the internet!
villa96
They were in hiding for a couple of days.I see Bruce is being heavily linked with the Wigan job.
Pking
Its interesting that they've posted here four times more than on their own vital site in the last few days! Where's the match report, vital blues?
The Usual Suspect
Right, now my brain is in gear, I understand the article!!!! Well done Gabby, and also Laursen. How people still underrate Laursen is beyond me. No one outside Villa rates him at all. For a laugh check out the Spurs site - they have an article about Lennon reaching 200 and something in the rankings. Aiming high then!!!
CLVilla
Your right PKing, Bruce is moving to Wigan to further his career.
*Holte*End*Star*
Good to see Gabby doing so well. I really thought that this might be Lukes really big breakthrough season, but sadly he's just not doing the business.
