'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Hokey-Cokey On Fragile Players

Nigel Hokey-Cokey, a summer import from West Ham, says that Martin O'Neill has the man management 'just right'.

Speaking in The People, he says the days of ranting and raving at players are gone. Wonder if anyone has told Sir Alex 'Hairdryer' Ferguson that?

Adding, 'To be honest, players are a lot more fragile now. If a manager continues to hound and hound and hound, then players will get to a point where they snap or just switch off. The Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira days are over. Managers realise this and they know that to be a top Premier League boss you have to be a good man-manager to your players. It's all about knowing who to put an arm around and who to push on. Martin O'Neill has this just right.'

If someone wanted to pay me £20k a week, they could shout as much as they wanted and to be fair, the way I 'play' football, they'd have plenty to shout about.

I work in a disaplined job where shouting and bullying used to be the way but times have changed. It appears that softly softly now has to do because people are aware of their rights. Would have thought though that this wouldn't have crept into footy just yet. Shame because Reo needs a kick up the backside!

Maybe he is predicitng he is in fact due for a bollocking, in which case he is letting MON know an arm around the shoulders is the best thing for him. According to many of my WHU mates he is a sulky sod, but I have to say his celebration with Gabby after the winner was as animated as I have seen him celebrating any Villa goal this season

What bollocking, he must have sussed he's out of favour, he's in the dreaded right wing spot, O'Neill's punishment position

He's going through a tough time, no doubt about it, but hopefully the supporters will stick with him, and not get on his back as was the case with Petrov.

right-wing 48? What games have you been watching?
jonah
He certainly seemed to be popping up on the right wing against the Blues. I think it was more a case of Petrov being given the license to roam, and NRC having to cover though.

He is young, he has the chance to develop into a good player for us, hopefully he can shake off the sulky rep and also the reputation that he upsets other team members.
The Fear
He is a misserable bugger must admit, but if he keeps scoring goals who cares!
will it ever happen
He's a winner, maybe not the best footballer in the world but he's got something about him. I like him, he'll improve as well.

If who keeps scoring goals 'will it ever happen'? What have I been missing?
glensider
Unfortunately for Nigel , Petrov can not play right midfield. He roams about the park and thus leaves the right side exposed. He has done this in the last 2 home games. I think MON moved NRC to the right to give more balance to the midfield but IMO he is much more effective in the middle.I would get Gardiner back on the right and leave NRC in the centre with Barry.
