High Praise For Gabby Agbonlahor

Gabriel Agbonlahor said after the 2-1 win over Blues: 'Being a local lad, it means a lot to me to score in the derby but it was a great overall performance from the lads. It is nice scoring against an arch-rival but the most important thing is we won the game and the character we showed will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.'

He also said that the Claret and Blue army inspired the team, explaining, 'When we were warming up, the Villa fans were really loud and that made the lads really want to do even better in the game and showed them how much it means to the fans. Even when we conceded the goal, the fans kept rooting for us and we showed our appreciation at the end by throwing them our shirts.'

Gabby has also come in from some high praise from Villa boss Martin O'Neill and former Gunner and now Sky pundit Alan Smith.

Brummie Smith was impressed with the hot shot striker saying in the Daily Telegraph, he enthused: 'You can hardly complain that he doesn't rise to the occasion, that he doesn't come up trumps in the big games. First an opening goal against Manchester United last month proved Gabriel Agbonlahor possesses a big-match temperament. And now this - the all-important strike in yesterday's second city derby, a winner against Birmingham that would have tasted so sweet to this Aston Villa fan born just down the road. You could hardly blame him for the wild celebration, a dive into the crowd along with several team-mates for which our good friend, Steve Bennett, flourished a yellow card. No matter. Agbonlahor had proved once again that he has developed into a front runner of real potential.'

He also says that graduation from England U21's to the full squad can't be far away. With Shrek of Manchester United now injured, who knows McClaren might come calling very soon?

Meanwhile MON says Gabby is like 'Stan Collymore at his best'. High praise indeed.

'I am really pleased with him. He has improved leaps and bounds in the last 15 months. He had a great first season and there is no second season syndrome with him. He has come roaring out this season and is improving all the time. He has a wonderful attitude to the game and is prepared to work. I am very pleased with him and pleased for him. It is a great goal to win the game as was his one against Manchester United. He is doing great.'

This boy could become our regular 20 goal man.... he needs a partner who will chip in with their fair share as well, do we have that player at the club.... jury is out on that one as far as I am concerned

He may never be a 20 goal a year guy but if he can score the big ones when the game is on the line that might just be enough to make him a legend! He has had a few really nice ones but his strike vs the blose will make him a Hero to many for a long time.

He is never injured, never suspended, very rare for him to have a bad game, scores goals, lightening quick, holds the ball well, great temprement, doesnt do a j lloyd with the earing and white boots. And he is a villa fan. Give him a ten year contract!!

'Never injured' - hmm, that comment worries me. I've just about 'trained' my missus not to say 'the motorway is quiet today' ... :o)

Yeah, I seem to remember him playing with a dodgy ankle last Christmas - mainly because we had no cover for the right wing. Even when injured he still wants to play. Quick players always get injured eventually - comes with the trade. I see alot of commentators are saying start with Gabby and Young behind Crouch for the England friendly - they are saying Gabby has proved his big game credentials this year. I say go for it. Well done kid.

He's as dull as dishwater in his interviews,a good sign I think.

Don't care about his interviews provided he continues to play well and scores goals. The lad loves playing and that is the most important thing

He loves the word "Really".... Gabby For England has to be the new chant. I know no one really listened for years when we sang "Barry For England" but he got there in the end. Or maybe it should just be "Villa For England"

He's improved so much over the past twelve months, and while he still has a lot to learn, and an England call up right now would I believe be way too early, he really has it in him to become a top quality striker. He's certainly come a long way since going out on loan to the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, and hardly setting the Championship on fire.

5 goals in 12 premiership games. He's on trget for 15+ this season already, barring injuries and suspension.

Why cant he be a 20 goal a season man? He certianly seems to know where the goal is, and is getting better all the time.

He'll definitely be a 20 goal a season striker in time! All we need is a world class striker for him to learn from. As good as Carew is i think we need a better goalscorer to take Gabby under their wing. Up the Villa anyway! and Gabby's already a legend in my eyes!

Remember when he was on loan at wednesday and you just could tell that he was going to be something special.
will it ever happen

Gabby was 150/1 with Will Hill to be leading premiership scorer at start of season. Considering he's no in top 10 that looks like a big price!

NO doubt he is one of the best young players in the league with him and Young in the team with a hopefull return for Cahill I feel Villa will be one of the best teams in the league in the next 2-3 seasons. MON PLEASE PLEASE BRING BACK CAHILL WHY PLAY KNIGHT (OK HAD A GOOD MATCH ON SUNDAY BUT) WHEN WE HAVE A PLAYER WHO CAN SCORE A LIKE THAT ONE IN A VILLA BIRMINGHAM MATCH AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE!!

He's improving all the time. An old head on young shoulders. The good thing is, we haven't seen the best of him yet.
