Mellberg Confident Of Villa Win

Olof Mellberg says that despite an uninspiring performance against Derby County last weekend, the players know the importance of the local derby and that the team can step up a gear.

He told Lisa Smith at the Birmingham Post:

'...am I confident for the Birmingham game? Yes, definitely.'

Adding, 'It is important to win even if you are not on top of your game. We probably need to raise our game a little bit for Sunday and I hope the Derby game showed we have acquired the knack of winning when not playing well. That is really important. All the top teams, that is what they do and sometimes that can be the difference from being up there challenging and being a mid-table team.'

Just got to hope that the players, especially the younger ones, realise they'll have to BATTLE for every ball and nothing but 100% for the full 90 mins will be accepted from the Villa faithful, this is their time to repay our support surely?!?

Why do I get nervous when Mellberg starts talking before a Derby game?

Dito Skeggy. I seem to remember his words backfired last time he opened his mouth! Come on boys lets leave the talking till Sunday!

We need to perform like we did against Chelsea like our lives depend on it! Anything less is unacceptable!

If you play poor you will still win because they are sh**!!! 4-1 to the Villians, easy!
will it ever happen
I'm already planning a big ***** up infront of telly. not going to the pub in case we loose and there are blue noses in there gloating. come on villa lets give them a kicking and wipe the floor with them. My heart says villa win my head says a tough game that could go either way.

If Birmingham put it up to us they'll win.

last time Mellberg shouted his mouth we lost and Bruce mocked him post match. If I remember correctly potato head said Mellberg wouldn't get into the Bles defence.

That must have been before liam "can't run" ridgewell captained them. What a tool Bruce is.
The Usual Suspect
Doesnt that thick t**t every learn! Keep your mouth shut Mellberg and concentrate on the game.
wislor
To be fair all he said is that he's confident going into the game thats not really mouthing off.
Pking
Good. Im glad hes confident. He needs to be for this sunday.

It bugs me when players are asked questions by journos, such as 'Ar you confident against Blues?, to which the only reasonable answer for a pro is 'Of course I'm confident', and then the journo misquotes the player, or quotes him out of context, and then everyone picks up on it as if that's what the player actually said, and before you know it he's getting called a 'thick tw*t' and being accused of 'shouting his mouth off'. When will we learn ...

Olof has said nothing out of order. We cant march into The Sty on Sunday fearing the worst simply because one or more of our players have expressed a degree of confidence when asked a question by a journalist. What will cost us on Sunday is a poor performance, lacking pride, belief, and passion. It will have nothing to do with a few off the cuff comments made by our right full back.

Why do you think they have asked Olly for his view.?...... journos know what he said three years ago or whatever it was and are looking for more controversial copy, better to say what he has said than oh no we are fearful of going there they are a force to be reckoned with etc.... come on get a grip
fatloser
Yeah Wislor, did you actually read the article??
