O'Neill On 'Special' Game.

O'Neill On 'Special' Game.

Martin O'Neill has said the local derby is 'special'.

With Villa visiting St Andrews on Sunday in the first of the blood baths, I mean local derbies, he told the posh new official site:

'Treating it like any other game I suppose is easier said than done. It is a special game and I also think it deserves its place, so it probably isn't just 'any other game'. When the dust settles there are three points up for offer, so from that sense it is like any other, but obviously it isn't because it is very important to the people of both clubs. To go and win the game, whether it is home or away, I just think that having been involved in other city derbies, this is very much a special thing. So there is no point in playing it down.'

Adding: 'Obviously I haven't experienced it, but the players tell me it is very special. So again it is getting back to the point, I wouldn't play it down.

And it looks like The Hulk, big John Carew might be fit in time. O'Neill says he the Norwegian striker trained with them yesterday and that the team have missed his 'presence'.

And on whether John could be a started he added, 'I really would have to look at that. I think all the Premier League games are high intensity - or certainly that is your view of them beforehand, as they don't always turn out that way - but this is one game that we know will be high intensity. He says, that in terms of his fitness work, that he has been pretty good. He has done a lot of stuff here whilst his injury has been improving. I will see.'

And another boost is that wing wizard Ashley Young, who was targeted by the Derby players last week for some rough treatment, looks set to be fit after coming off with a tight groin.

And Stiliyan Petrov looks like he knows the way to the Villa fans heart, just score the winner on Sunday!! He said: 'The boys have been on about this game for a long time. It's a great experience to play in this derby game. We're all looking forward to it and we hope we can get the result.' Adding, 'So if I could score the winner it would be great. The fans have been great from the start of the season. You saw it was a full house again against Derby and I hope we can bring them some good nights and they can enjoy end of the season when we get up the table.'

If Stan gets the winner then the last 2 season will all be forgiven!

And so the PR build up starts You can't beat it. Next up Knight on how great it is to play against the Blues Next Captain Barry on how our superior talent will give them lots to think about Hopefully an epic diatribe from Coker on how he appreciates getting sent off won't help us win Lastly an article from Carson on how he specialises in back passes and keeping 100% concentration 100% through the game especially in derby games

If Stan gets the winner he will have 'cult hero' status, just like Super Kev. Wonder why Baros was never appreciated for his two goals at VP that effectively kept us up and sentenced the unwashed to relegation? Anything to do with being lazy?
07/11/2007 16:19:00
I don't think Baros was lazy, just he gave up as he made the right runs and never got the right passes from midfield, with young providing the ammo, he'd have scored more than our current boys have this season. Remember he got 12 in a poor DOL team.

Hope Gabby gets the winner on sunday judging from previous celebrations hes going to go physco if he scores on sunday. He is a villa fan isnt he?
07/11/2007 20:50:00
Gabbi, moore, knight and gardner are all villa fans. This being the case they should all get a look in on sunday - this one means more to them then the other players.
The Usual Suspect

Cant see nothing else but a Villa win. Gabbi hat-trick!!
will it ever happen
08/11/2007 11:42:00
It is 'the' derby, no doubt about it. Games against West Brom and Wolves simply dont come anywhere near. Its like comparing apples to oranges. We know that the riff-raff will be totally up for it, they always are, after all its their one big opportunity to climb out of our shadow for two minutes if they turn us over. Match them for pride, passion, and commitment, and there can only be one winner. Skill and ability wise we are head and shoulders above them. Bring it on. Come On You Lions!
