Laursen In Actim Team Of The Week

Martin Laursen soared into the top 10 of the Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League, following another dominant display against Derby.

The Denmark defender, 30, scored his third goal of the season in the 2-0 victory over the Rams at Villa Park. His 33 point-haul - his best at home this term - saw him move 14 places to ninth in the Index with 186 points.

Laursen has also been effective at the other end, too, as he has made 20 clearances, 10 interceptions and nine blocks in 11 games.

He is one of five Villa players in the top 50 with Gabriel Agbonlahor in 14th place with 174 points, Ashley Young in 21st with 167 points, Zat Knight in 39th with 148 points, and Gareth Barry two places further back but on the same score.

Analysis of all Premier League games is taking place throughout the season and the players in the Actim Index Team of the Week are:

David James, Portsmouth
Martin Laursen, Aston Villa
Noe Pamarot, Portsmouth
Luke Young, Middlesbrough
Juliano Belletti, Chelsea
Frank Lampard, Chelsea
Lee Carsley, Everton
Simon Davies, Fulham
Niko Kranjcar, Portsmouth
David Healy, Fulham
Yakubu, Everton

The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player’s contribution be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards.

Zat Knight??? Surely there must be some mistake. Maybe they should remove that calculation which awards points for rookie mistakes and lack of concentration!
DeanoVilla
Still not as bad as made out to be, does a lot of good too by the looks of things. You cannot argue with facts i am afraid for all you doubters. Zat is a good player and if he cuts the silly mistakes out could be a top player - hence why MON signed the guy! Another England call soon maybe?
KSarge1
a great result for him personally and for the club...theres some talent out there and to make the best 11 is a big achievement........

Martin is certainly flavour of the month right now. Makes you realise, and regret, just how much stability at the back we have missed, while he's been recovering with the number of injuries that have hammered him since he arrived at Villa Park.
glensider
Hope he keeps his form up could be a real asset to us if he does.
villabikes29
why isnt he offered a new contract?
shortshadyuk
Because we have wasted 9m on curtis
FatKev
No we haven't as he is still only on loan
Villain Of The North
Does seem a little strange how Davies is only bench warming. Perhaps we can go back and say "nah, we don't need him, but if you reduced the price to 5 we'll take him off your hands"
coyleos
hes top of the ranks on the premier league.com fantasy football ahead of Rio and Lescott too!
leelindsay
Can't curtis go back to WBA?! 3m for Laursen and 9m for Curtis doesn't quite add up!
leelindsay
9m for curtis, my god he must be far better than i remember.

The transfer market inflation has been amazing over the last few years anyone young with any potential is going to cost you big money.
villabikes29
We need Gary Cahill back to partner Martin. But thats another story.
