Villa Reserves 3-1 Spurs Stiffs

Just returned from Bescot.

There weren't many chances at all in the first half, Salifou had 2 shots tipped over the bar in the first 15 mins while Tomas Pekhart had the ball in the net for Spurs but was clearly offside.

Spurs took the lead just after half time with a penalty but then they crumbled completely.

Our midfield took control and Mikaelsson got 2 and then Harewood scored a penalty.

Villa could have had so many more with chances from Bellon and Harewood again. Salifou was fantastic, that good he got a standing ovation from the supporters even at a reserve game.

Harewood was very average, some good touches, some bad ones.

Curtis Davies was a rock at the back, won everything.

Sorenson made a good save late on but never really had to do much apart from that in the game.

Osbourne played really well in midfield but the 3 that really stood out were Salifou, Nathan Delfounseso and Harry Forrester. Delfounseso and Forrester ripped the Spurs full backs apart, both look really good prospects for the future.

Really good performance by the Villa reserves tonight and they still lie top of the table on 17 points.

Villa: Sorensen, Lund, O'Halloran, Herd, Clark, Davies, Salifou, Osbourne, Harewood, Delfouneso, Mikaelsson. Subs: Y.Bellon, Bevan, D.Bellon (Salifou 83), Weimann (Deldouneso 87), Forrester (Clark 12).

Belfast Villain
would be great if salifou works out, certainly an impressive start in his two reserve games. Could be the buy of the season!
The Fear
Salifou looked impressive. Shows from the standing ovation he got, even from MON in the box behind me. Got stuck into the challenges all night.
randy.stand
If Harewood played tonight why was he not on the bench on Saturday or is he that crap he cannot even get on our bench ? Have I just answered my own question

Focus on the positive, FL, focus on the positive! :o)
BobTheBuilder
Harewood looked very average. Was awful at some things and good at others. Just needs to find that level of consistency. Mikaelsson was on his hat trick and is the pen taker for reserves and Harewood (the skipper) took the penalty off him so he could take it himself. Bit selfish really.

Great to hear Salifou looks like a player, and also good to see the really young kids given a chance at reserve level.
DeanoVilla
Delfounseso really looks a top player for the future. His skills and technique is phenomenal for 16 year old lad.

snore gettin excited over reserves now r we villa?
ExiL
Not really. Had a great reserve team for years, nothing new really.

Salifou may be the link missing from the Midfield (Petrov is currently the missing link) If he is that good get him at least on the bench.......

Just read this report & the one on VillaTalk, positive comments from Salifou all round. Nice to hear. In fact, apart from Delfounso (not praised so much on VT) the two reports basically said the same thing! Hope too much isn't expected of Salifou, could do without another Nii Lamptey situation ;-)
Sheriff Kimbo
Thats quite an experianced reserve side you got there, where"s the kids..??
chalky76
Quick thanks to Randy.stand for the article. Good to hear more about the reserves - living in N Wales it is a bit too far to travel down for reserve games too.
Gordonsleftboot
as ive said in previous threads dont get to excited over salifou because the gap in football from reserve to prem is massive so salifou still needs to get to peak fitness to have any chance in the prem.
villabikes29
No problem gordonsleftboot. Chalky76- We have 2 players with premiership experience in there- Harewood and Sorenson. Salifou hasn't played yet and Osbourne is still very very young. Plenty of youngsters in there too.

Why was Harebrain captain? I understand that MON is trying to give him some confidence but a hattrick even if only for the reserves would have made the youngster's day and given him much more confidence. Unfortunately methinks we will need more than just confidence to turn Homer into a half decent player. Is MON being bullied by this brute aswell? I hear from friends who are Hammers fans that Marlon and Coker were leading a revolt last year in the changing rooms at Upton Park and they caused a massive divide between blacks and whites. Marlon has already had a public go at Gabby. Hope none of this is true and it is all heresay anyway. Should be focussing on the positives UTVR

"Villa increased their lead at the top of the table with a victory that was mainly down to Salifou who outshone the rest with his work-rate and determination. Harewood, who some thought might come to Spurs, had a stinker of a game." ........ "This was the only way Harewood was going to score and he carmly put the ball to Forecast’s left" Taken from a normally biased Spuz website.
Villan444
Even the Spurs sites report that Salifou was head and shoulders above all others on display. We shouldn't get carried away, but it does certainly look as if he's coming along nicely.

good to see these youngsters getting the chance in the reserves, if only for the fact our squad is so small we have no choice. the more reports i read and the more i see Harewood play makes me think WTF MON?
*Holte*End*Star*
Who cares when we are going to sign Heskey in January? swap for Marlon.
KSarge1
jeez the yids are getting battered on all fronts at the moment...
ernshaw
Marlons Villa Park days look numbered already. Having said that, I'd have him on the bench on Sunday afternoon at St Andrews.
