Unoial Villa News...

Olof Mellberg has been speaking to The Independent and has said that he 'might' sign a new contract at Villa but only if we qualify for Europe this season. Mellberg can leave on a Bosman come the summer and is allowed to talk to other clubs in January - having recently been linked to Juventus. He told the Independent: “It would be good to qualify for Europe. If this goal is achieved, I might stay.” Full article Click Here

Martin O'Neill hopes now Luke Moore has his first Prem goal of the season he'll go on a run. 'It will be pleasing for him, it was pleasing for all of us, obviously, because you are off the mark....Strikers, whatever they say, you are hoping to make a big contribution elsewhere - foraging and doing this and that in games, but eventually you know in your own mind when you go home that you would have liked to have scored a goal. That will certainly be a weight off his mind. It is a big boost. When John Carew scored that goal against Everton for the next 15 or 20 minutes the confidence he got from that, it was Carew back to his very best. So it is a really big lift.'

Vital Villa asked, how much would you sell Gareth Barry for if at all. 49% said they'd not sell him as he is irreplaceable. 14% said only in a swap for Essien, 11% would sell at £15m, 10% said £20m, 10% said £15million and both Shaun Wright-Phillips and Steve Sidwell! 5% went for £15m and either Shaun Wright-Phillips or Steve Sidwell. That left 1% saying only if we were offered more than £20m

Peter Crouch has been linked in the Sunday press to a return to Villa Park. Full article: Click Here

Former Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale has claimed in his new book that Martin O'Neill had agreed to join Leeds whilst Celtic manager.

Reports are suggesting that Villa are keen to send 19-year-old left-back Stephen O'Halloran out on a loan to get him some first team football. O'Neill said 'He's signed the extension to his contract, now he wants to play. There's a number of teams interested in some of our players and clubs have been asking about him. That was some time ago and we might have to resurrect the interest because at the time I wasn't interested in doing anything. I'll think about Stephen. It was a great experience going to Wycombe - he ended up playing in the semi-final of the League Cup, which he would never have dreamed about.'

In a report in The Birmingham Post by Lisa Smith, Martin O'Neill insists that Stiliyan Petrov will settle at Villa and prove his worth. O'Neill said: 'Someone made the point as to whether Stiliyan is under more pressure. Stiliyan has a much higher expectation of himself than he has shown here and I have to be perfectly honest because I know what he is capable of doing.' The annoying thing with Petrov is his debut was just sublime, so how could he produce that against West Ham at Upton Park but then all but disappear at times? That is a rhetorical question by the way, I've no idea as I was so good at football I'd regularly be picked for the school team. Fair enough it was for the women's team, but hey ho, you take what you are given in life! ;-) Full article: Click Here

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by Eltoro, What do you think of Martin O'Neill so far. 42% have said that the Villa boss is doing a 'good' job. Certainly gives him something to build on given time. 25% said he is doing a 'very good' job and 4% went for the 'fantastic, couldn't ask for more' option. 13% had his work on the Villa so far as 'average' with a further 2% voting 'poor, don't think we've moved on at all'. That left 14% wanting him replaced voting 'get him out, not the manager we thought'. Full article: Click Here

I have to admit I rate the guy, dont think he's as bad as some portray. He's lacking confidence right now, but he was getting slammed last season when I thought he more than deserved to keep a regular place in the starting line-up.

Luke gets his first of the season. Good. We need more from him, both in number of goals scored, and in assists/work rate. He's been a disappointment so far this season, not showing the progress we had all hoped for.
