Would this article be aimed at the 14% who have voted MON out by any chance? Sadly, the article has a lot of truth about it and it gives credence to O'Dreary's comments about fickle supporters. Have faith and more important, have patience. Better times are ahead, but it WILL take time.

We have won the league cup twice, been Premier League runners up twice and qualified for Europe via our league placing a number of times in the last 20 years (I'll not include FA Cup runners up as that was a huge disappointment rather than an achievement). Nevertheless if that counts as underachievement for the whole 20 years then it sounds like you too are expecting a miracle of winning the League 9a real trophy) - albeit in 3 or 4 years rathar than 12 months. I just want to underachieve by winning the Cups and qualifying for Europe again. Let's not write off our history. I get the point and I agree we have under-achieved. We could have taken off post 1981 and certainly post 1996 if things had all fallen into place earlier in the new dawn of the Premier League. Give me the old dawn anyday - when it was a bit more about good management, good youth policy, an eye for players in the transfer market and good team spirit. These are all still vital ingredients if Villa are to succeed, but no longer enough to challenge the big 4. Even so we have had some good times - don't downgrade are achievements more than we should. it is a common perception amongst non-Villa fans and increasingly amongst Villa fans that we have spent most of the history of the Premier League in mid-table or in relegation fights. We have had some good times and let's hope things are rolling our way again now. European qualification is there for the taking for the best run club outside the Big 4 for starters and there is no reason why that shouldn't be us - and hopefully sooner rather than later. Breaking into the Big 4 will clearly take longer.

just hope some of these supporters have now been brought back down to earth, the last few games have been a rude awakening for a few supporters who think we should just go out and splash the cash on players,this does not guarantee success but it could surely bring us into bankrupcy,we all know that other teams cashed in on us as soon as randy learner took over and we have maybe payed over the odds for the players,but i think mon by not rushing out and spending 15 or 20 million pound on players has sent a message out to the other clubs that we are not going to get ripped off, there are fans who think we should spend spend spend,well what i would say to these people is come back in to the real world,randy learners life just does not revolve around aston villa fc he has other comitments in is life just like the rest of us only on a larger scale.utv
