Gareth Barry Not For Sale

Martin O'Neill is quoted in the papers today saying that Villa skipper Gareth Barry isn't for sale and now the England international has joined in to re-assured the fans.

Following a report at the weekend, Villa Star Linked With Shock Exit Barry told the official site: 'I'd like to reassure fans that I am not looking to leave.' after being linked to Chelsea in the press over the weekend.

On the rumour he added, 'I saw the story but it was the first I'd heard of it. Of course I am happy at Villa. I guess it is just a reflection of how I am doing at club and international level. How true it is I don't know. I certainly won't be worrying about it or thinking about it. I'd like to reassure fans that I am not looking to leave. The manager, Chairman- we are all going in the right direction. These things come up suddenly from time to time, and I don't know how true they are. '

THere is no doubt he has been tapped up based on his last couple of perfomances Letsa hope Mon can spot a few decent players no morre MH or CD the unlucky £13m down the drain

How can you say that about CD, he will be a quality signing, it only takes a couple more of Zat Knights displays for him to be dropped and then you will all eat your words re. CD, he was poor against Leicester but I have seen him play loads and he will be quality, I imagine that him and Laursen will be a formidable CB pairing...... erm....I have no defence for MH unfortunately. Happy that Barry has come out to say he is happy here, obviously he is happy with the progress made...

Uh oh the dreaded I am happy to stay reports. Henry spoke of his desire to remain at Arsenal in May before jumping ship a whole 2 months later.

I agree totally NO WAY should GB leave Villa, BUT every player does have their price. It would have to be an outstanding offer to even consider. I vote in the poll he should stay as irreplaceable, but if Chelski did offer Sidwell, Wright-Phillips and a lot of money (£10m plus) MON would have to CONSIDER it. Doesn't mean he would sell though

We could punt him on while his stock his high then come back in and get a few months later when he cant get a game a la Scott Parker.If they offered Sidwell and SWP and we could twist their arm into offering a bit of money on top of that definatley Id take it.Hes making the usual noises of someone who will leave.He plays better than Lampard for England beside Gerrard but he's definatley not a better player than Lampard.

How on earth can FatKev write off Curtis Davies on the evidence of that one League Cup disaster? As for Gareth, good to read his somewhat re-assuring comments, but I'll keep an open mind. Seasons end will be the time all this talk could come to a head re our captain and his future career.

We've got to ensure that we can offer our 'better' players competitive european club football, otherwise sooner rather than later, Gareth and co will very definitely be looking to move on. The ball is very much in our court.
