Managers Post Match Reactions

Martin O'Neill reacted to the 1-1 draw against Bolton saying:

'I think that was a good point - in terms of the way we fought back. We were on the back-foot to begin with and Bolton were geed-up with a new manager coming in. With Nigel (Hokey-Cokey) out through suspension, we re-adjusted accordingly. But things weren't going right in the first-half and I thought we were giving the ball away too easily. We conceded the goal and we were second to the ball for a lot of the first-half, so I decided to make some changes at half-time.'

On the second half he added we deserved the point and mystifyingly thought we could have taken all 3 points. Not quite sure how.

'I thought we weathered whatever was thrown at us in the second-half. Bolton are a difficult team to play against, but we've eventually got something out of the game and I'm pleased with that.'

Gary Megson said after the game he found the decision by the linesman 'strange' adding, 'The linesman has signalled a throw for us, then the referee overruled him but neglected to tell our lads.' And on the game he said 'I am happy with effort from our players, We weren’t as solid in the second-half as we were in the first, but that was expected. But I can’t complain about the commitment shown this afternoon”

He also praised Anelka who is being linked to Manchester United amongst others, “Well, Anelka is in a class of his own. It was a great-free-kick, he did extremely well to curl it in like he did”. Wish we would throw our hat into the ring for Anelka, for a below average Bolton team he has still managed to score 6 goals!

Must admit I quite enjoy his rambles, never totally sure what he is saying but they are usually entertaining at least!

We play a bottom 3 team & we have to be grateful for a point as they are hard to play against. Well the decision to buy 2 centre halfs that were not as good as what we already had; Not getting in a right back as we are waiting for pyrite based on his record so far has come home to haunt us. Lets hope MON will make up for his slow start otherwise we will be looking over our shoulders again after our turkey dinner

Boltonwere bound to have newmanageritus on their side, but some of the defending was a total cluster.

Yesterday’s game was Crap. I am not moaning or getting or any bandwagon against MON but we just don’t have enough decent players, Petrov is poor whichever way you want to look at it, he is an attacking midfielder but 9 out of 10 passes is always played backwards. We have arguably 2 of the fastest players going forward but yet our counter attacking is slow if not non existent. Its seemed liked Bolton played better on the counter every time they broke us down. Osborne is way out of his depth. I know someone will say all players have an off day, but with villa its total opposite where sometimes we have a good day like against Chelsea. Man UTD kicked our ass in OUR home ground. God this almost seems like Deja Vous and I hope I am wrong. No I am not a pessimist but we have spent a lot of money and I realise every player we buy wont be a good one, but we have paid over the odds for CRAP. Sorry I can’t offer any words on encouragement but I feel frustrated right now. At least u guys have each other in the UK I am all alone in South Africa.

Didn't watch the game i was too busy getting *****ed, and it sounds like I'm glad i missed it. Good to see Luke Moore on the score sheet, albeit a lucky goal, but who cares if it goes in off his backside it gets him off the mark. I've decided i'm going to judge MON after the summers transfer dealings, they were disapointing this summer so i think MON's got some catching up to do if we are going to be consistantly challenging the top 8 teams. MON seems reluncant to spend over the odds on players but then signs players like Harewood for £4m and Petrov for £8m? It's going to be busy at VP in Jan......... I hope!

MON can paint as pretty a picture as he likes. What I witnessed yesterday was awful. Birmingham City lie in wait, and another gutless shambles like yesterday will bring about only one result, so we'd better prepare for a very humbling afternoon at The Sty. I just couldn't understand what we were attemptiong to do yesterday? Did we want to win the game? What I saw at St James Park back in August filled me with hope, yesterdays offering left me with nothing but concern.

With regards to Bolton though, maybe, just maybe, Megson could after all be the right man for them. He's gone back to the tried and trusted that served them well under Big Sam. He wont win many friends, but he might just keep them up.
