Goalkeeper Issues for Martin

Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill is still mulling over his goalkeeping options, or so he says.

With Scott Carson missing the Bolton match, O’Neill is yet to decide whether to turn to current number 2 Stuart Taylor, or give Thomas Sorensen a shot following his reserve team clean sheet.

O’Neill spoke to avfc.co.uk on the matter: “Stuart has been the number two because Thomas got injured in pre-season and now he's fit. He played on Monday night for the reserves; he played for his country last week.

“Countering that, Stuart came on last Saturday and did very well.”


I think we’re all expecting Taylor to be honest, leaving Thomas Sorensen to see if he can overcome Arsenal’s bonkers 3rd choice shot stopper Jens Lehmann in the “bad PR” stakes when it comes to lack of opportunities.

It'll be Taylor don't worry and probaly tommys last appearance even if it is on the bench.

Stuart Taylor will have every right to feel hard done by if he misses out at The Reebok. He played well in our opening day defeat by Liverpool, and performed well when he came on this past weekend. Then again Tommy is arguably the better keeper of the two (of the three in fact), so he has to be in the frame. Close call.

the only thing is im afraid if tommy has a good game against bolton then he'll keep his place then make a mistake against small heath.......

The thing I dont like about Taylor is that he always plays well but always conceeds aswell.

Taylor doe's not command his area as well as he could but is match fit, I cant remember Sorensen been that brilliant either the number of times he cost us points last season by failing to collect the ball was numerous. Taylor for me I dont think I can stand another session of Tommy going down like a sack of spuds after he failed (again) to make the ball in the air.

We need to be looking for replacements for Tommy and Stuart. Their Villa Park days are surely over. Both need to move on.
